Its really annoying. I told her I was going to buy a PS3 today and she told me to grow up and that I'm not a little kid anymore so I shouldn't be buying video games. I'm 18 by the way. I even told her how the average gamer is like 35 years old these days but she thinks their all just "big kids." Shes going to be mad at me if I buy the PS3 but I'm gonna do it anyway.

Has she ever played games before? Maybe if you buy a Wii and make her play it she will change her mind.

By the way your Internet is fast.

You generally have to be an adult in order to afford a ps3.

And if you have enough money for a ps3 and you are an adult, you have to consider what else you could do with that money, if it would be better spent improving your transportation device, or getting ahead on rent / mortgages, using that money for groceries or clothes that you might need, or things that your girlfriend/ wife/ kids/ pets may need.

Obviously if everything in your life is provided for and you still want to get a ps3 than go for it.

As far as games content being for kids, I feel that most games can be fun for people of any age. My mom is nearing 60 and she plays lots of video card games, majjong, yahtzee, risk and things of that sort all the time. She had a blast playing wii sports with me as well.

well im going to college this year so a lot of that stuff is already paid for and taken care of. i dont have to worry about a car since they dont allow one the first year. food i can just get from the cafeteria. i just need to make sure i have enough money to pay for whatever scholarships and my parents dont pay for for next semester. that shouldnt be to much. id say its financially safe for me to buy one. the point is not the money the point is is it really worth it?

Although I know girl gamers exist, I've never met one and most of the women I've ever known all seem to equate video games with childrens activities.

I'm sure your moms would faint if she knew that not only do grown menmake video games, some get payed to play them.

Jeez your mom is so wrong. The average gamer is actually 31 years old, which is kinda suprising. I though it would be like 18 or something. I hate all these stereotypes for video games, like it makes people go out and actually do the action that's in the video game. No one has gone doing crimes becuase of GTA, exept mabye a couple people.

My wife said the same thing that video games are childish untill one day her bff ask her that "Do you rather him play games or go out to party get drunk, F-up on drugs, and meet some girls?" Since then she never complain when I buy games.

Show her Resident Evil 4... it sure ain't a kid's game. It probably wouldn't improve her opinion of video games though. :|

I would ask her if she thinks movies are for "kids" as well. Or what about television shows? Music? Books? All other forms of entertainment. Are those for kids too?

And then, after she's done thinking about that, I would make the comment that most people who buy games are between the ages of 18 and 34. 28 being the average age of most gamers. Those are just the facts, and if she disagrees with them then she can live her live being ignorant of what is really happening in the real world.

Hopefully your mum sees the light. Most people here are pretty liberal about that stuff, my parents see games as the same as movies. A form of art enjoyable by all ages

I've played since 4 and will play my whole life

The only way to deal with people that are ignorant about Video Games is to ignore them. If you have the money, buy all the video games you want.

Show her manhunt and she'll change her mind about videogames. I think 90% of games out there aren't even suitable for kids.

Sadly, people like that can't change. I mean, even if they sit down and have fun with a game by themselves, they still stick to their opinions. Their loss, probably.
