Hah, thats hilarious. They don't want you to play it because of the sex related stuff and swearing...nevermind the mindless killing, carjacking etc.
If you're old enough to buy it yourself, then just go and get it...if you aren't well you shouldn't be playing it anyway, and your parents are doing the right thing. There are plenty of other great games to play.

Okay then...yes it is really 'that bad', theres an age restriction on it for a reason.
Like most are saying, your parents are doing the right thing. You should listen to them.
But there are so many awesome games you can play now that are not M rated, so play them. What's the deal with kids wanting to get on the GTAIV hype train? Does it make them feel cool or something?
I'll tell you what real cool is. Playing Pokemon on the DS in public and feeling no shame about it!:P
No seriously, kidding aside. Listen to your parents. There really are awesome games you can play now.
I have played GTA Vice City and San Andreas, and yes it actually is pretty bad, and for the next installment it will most likely be worse.
Yes I am straightforwardly saying I am 14, but I am not faint of heart. These games might have influenced me in someway that I cannot see. But for the most part, don't play them untill your the correct age. The game's rating is there for a reason and is to show what type of maturity is needed to be able to play it(something like that). So yes, if it says 17+ and your under that, then the game will be bad for you. It will influence you. You have good parents, and so do I, I don't know why they let me play it. Maybe because my brother is 6 years older then me and he plays it with me lol. The majority of games are rated T for Teen which is for age 13+. Since it is a majority, a good number of the top games will fall into this category so you have a wide range of choice. Don't fret about not being able to play one game or a few, you'll hurt yourself and only get mad about something stupid. Go have fun, but be smart about it.

I find it kinda suspicious that the TC still hasn't answered the question on how old he/she actually is, so my guess is: not much older than 14, in which case your parents are doing the right thing. It sucks, I know--I've been there--but you'll thank them for it later when you're older.
Edit: Why they're stating sexual content as a reason is beyond me, though. They should be more concerned about the graphical violence if you ask me.
See, I told you there was one responsible parents out there!
...actually I said no parents is responsible...
Still, good news.
It's called responsible parenting! It's nice to see that some parents take an active role in their kids lives and have actually bothered to educate themselves when it comes to games.topic. my parents won't let me get it because of the 'sex related' stuff and swearing. is it really that bad?

There's an age certificate for a reason.
Don't worry. You're not missing much. GTA4 was severely overrated. It lacks most of the features that made previous GTA games quite enjoyable. It's only signigficant qualites are impressive graphics and.. okay, that's about it.
Check out Fable 2 or Star Wars:The Force Unleashed or even Halo Wars when they come out. In the meantime, there are plenty of great games for you to enjoy.
And I agree with the others, your parents seem to be doing a great job, which means they really care about you.
American parents sucks because they are so strict about age limits.
Here in my country, you can buy any games at any age. Parents and stores doesn't care. They understand that it's only a game and kids won't do it in real life.
You could even buy FHM, Maxim, and other men's magazine here as long as you look mature enough. Hehe. Stores never ask for ID.
The only thing that is strict in age is buying alcoholic drinks. Stores ask for ID but most parents allow their kids once their in high school.

Please don't ruin my opinion of europeans. That is a irrisponsible attitude to have on the subject.
These regulations are in force for a reason. You cannot assume that becaue most peaple aren't strongly influenced by videogames that there aren't a few stupid or gullible idiots out there. Parents have a responsibiliy to teach their children important values including morality, ethics and good judgement.Unfortunately in this day and age in american society, most parents themselves are stupid and lazy. Everyone wants to do everything the easy way, take the path of least resistance and, when things go bad, blame it on someone else.
The TS's parents actually care about his/her development and, in light of the circumstances, you don't have the right to question their judgement.

I completely agree with you. In Europe, there's hardly any censorship, meaning that kids can easily get their hands on R rated material, yet Europeans don't seem any more perverted, disturbed, maladjusted or criminal than Americans, Australians or the British. It's just that simple. There's absolutely no evidence that playing GTA will adversely affect any child's development, so why do parents spend so much time censoring what their children are watching or playing? It seems to be more out of conservatism rather than any genuine concern for their kids' well-being....

In Europe, the populous and the governments tend to take education a bit more serious. They actually teach their children and teens. They don't provide them with a p!$$-poor education, ensuring that most adults will be naive enough for the government to program and control and allowing for the plausible maintenance of a high crime rate to justify their inflated law-enforcement and correctional budgets, thereby ensuring dirty politicians can always pretend to campaign about high crime as a backup strategy.
Well just try to connvince them that you are old enough to see those sorts of things. Or pull the double standards excuse that is used a lot "Well I see worse things in the movies that you let me see"Iceman8012
Why don't you give it a rest? The TS lives in the U.S. where there are ratings on games. In this country, parents have the right to monitor what their children watch and play. If you think it is acceptable to undermine them then you are immoral.

Ok so the double standards was a little much I was just trying to pull a littles sarcasm to the fact that it was an overused excuse. But the first part is true he should either try and convince his parents he is old enough to play these games and if he cannot by his parents standards even after that then he should just drop it. That is not undermining at all and if you still think that it is PM me to argue about it because I don't want to be suspended for going to off topic
