So my ps2 broke and i moved on to the xbox 360 but my xbox 360 broke so I am sending it to a repair center. Anyway, my ps2 broke because the ventilation stopped working. It will turn it self off in 10 minutes. So i wanna remove the cover so the hot air can rise up. Is this safe and will it work?

It probably would be safe, but use extra caution when a game loads and stuff.

I'm sure you can look at videos for removing the top on Youtube.

When you say the ventilation stopped working, do you mean the fan no longer spins? If this is the case, I don't think removing the top will solve the problem completely. You may notice some improvement, but there will likely still be problems with overheating eventually.

The fan is integral to the cooling process, as it channels cool air through the fins on the heatsink and directs the hot air out of the console. If the fan motor has died, you can order a replacement fan online and install it in place of the old one (best solution). Otherwise you can try leaving the case open and blowing air across the heatsink with an external fan (like the kind you sit in front of on a really hot day).

As to the safety issue, if you are just removing to top of the case you wont be exposing any live wires or high voltage points, so there is not much to worry about. Just make sure you follow a tutorial for opening the case properly, or it could end up like this guys Ps2 .

looks like he threw the PS2 out his car window going 60mph. :cry:sad that its in such condition :Dbut happy it still works.
About the cover here though, Taking off the top is a piece of cake. Just take out a few screws on the bottom and be very careful with that ribbon on the side. I would still suggest looking at some pics or a video of how to do it though. After the cover is off just throw some air at it with a large fan as previously mentioned. If it is going to become a permanent solution however make sure you clean it out regularly as dust will accumulate.

As safe as "running a computer" with the case open.

True dat. My PC I got off a friend had a missing side panel and its been running in the wide open for almost 2 years now. So why should game system be any different if done right?
