I can sort of remember a game like that, but I havent seen it in over a decade if it's what I'm thinking of, and never owned a copy personally. So I have no idea. Sorry. If I think of it later i'll post it, but I might not remember it before it becomes irrelevant.
Yoe are right this is an older game, so if anyone can stretch their memory way back that would help.
Do you have a system or such on which it came out?

I am not absolutely sure, but i THINK that it came out on the super nintendo.
Also, if I am thinking correctly this is an rpg were you get to initially pick your crew, but if that throws you off discard it because im unsure of that.
I know some games that let you pick your party from the start, but neither of those use your HP as your MP like you mentioned earlier, unless I'm getting confused. I still can't remember what game I was thinking of in an earlier post.
what games are you talking about, it would help.
Also if you could indicate their respective system...
The games I was thinking of were based on being able to pick your party. So I was thinking of Dragon Warrior III on NES, and Seiken Densetsu III on the SNES. The problem is that neither of those use your HP as MP, as far as I remember at least. But in Seiken Densetsu, you pick who you want at the start, and in Dragon Warrior III, you can always make new party members at the start and through the entire game.
One of the characters was an alien or something and in the game he did not use any weapons, only his fists
