Okay, I went back and rebought an N64 (which I sold for a PS2 back in the day) and I want to get a lot of my old games back but ... The controller is huge! I bought an official purple nintendo controller (see-through) but I don't remember it being so big. With this controller, if I'm to have my left hand ready for the L trigger and my right hand ready for the R trigger I can't really reach the analog stick well enough to manipulate with ease during gameplay with my little hands.

But when I was a kid I had no problem with it. I was able to hold the controller with ease, and I didn't have to resort to placing my left or right hand on the middle prong. Are there controllers of different sizes? Any smaller, non-nintendo produced controllers if that's the problem? (I had two Nintendo controllers however). If it helps, it was bought like a month after Banjo Kazooie came out.

Edit: Yeah, I'm looking at this thing and I remember it being smaller and more rounded.

probably it's huge to u because you used the PS controller like me and then tried the N64. Ps2 is way smaller than N64

The immature loser in me feels the need to tell you the first paragraph sounded like one long, sick innuendo.

But for actual advice; I admit the controllers are a lot bigger than what players are generally used to for 64. In fact; they might rival the Xbox in terms of bulkiness. However; I do have one right now which is gray and it's a lot less gigantic; not sure where you could buy one at since it's from my childhood. Still; I would suggest finding a nearby flea market and digging around for N64 controllers, Pawn shops tend to work too.

Nintendo must have released a new controller around the time the Dreamcast was released. I wonder if I can find it on ebay.

Can you take a picture of that controller?

I don't remember any games that you actually needed to use the L button. It was never an issue for me, I always had my left hand on the middle with the joystick, and never had to move it.

You're supposed to hold the middle with your left hand when using the analog stick. There are no games where you use the analog stick that you'd also need the L button or D pad. No, they didn't make different sizes of controllers. You just forgot how to hold it.

Yeah, if you just ignore the L button and the D-pad it's quite comfy. I always loved the controller.

It's not much bigger than most controllers. The central handle gives that impression.

I could swear there was a different looking controller. I remember in my head how my blue controller looked and it was smaller and different. But maybe you're right, maybe I am on crack.

Oh well, good to know using it the way I have been won't cause problems. I'd sure like that horipad though. Might be able to find it cheaper on yahoo auctions ...

its actually more confurible than a ps2 controller until the joystick wears on my thumb. if a game uses the d pad like the joy and the l like z then i go for that unless it dont use it or its not used durring gameplay. i fixed 2 of my n64 controllers to not wear down so that it will last for 5 years of hardcore play before you notice its loose from wear. i dont play it much because of the joystick hurting my hand

Eh ... I like the PS2 controller best. And yes, I have used the N64 controller the right way. I just remember having a smaller one as a child.

The most comfortable controllers for me are the PS2, Gamecube, and Dreamcast controllers.

I think the controller is really comfortable. If I hold it the way you did, I can comfortable reach the joystick. Or, I could hold it by the middle and comfortably reach the D-pad. Then again, I have huge hands, and the PS controllers always feel too small

I have a turbo n64 controller that is smaller, see through and more rounded, so it could be a turbo. Then again my turbo wasn't first party so.. idk

by fix i meant clean out the joystick and fill with grease and then wear is less likely to happen
