It's funny how you have all these FPS availible on today's market that are impressive audio/visuals and physics but just about everyone (myself included) seems to have a soft spot for the '97 N64 release of Goldeneye.

Comparing Goldeneye to FPS games today...

There's a significant differences with the Audio/Visual side of things as well as the physics, and the level design for single player has a very "Scripted" nature to it compared to the more open ended shooters. But compared to today's average shooter, gameplay has a very high level of "Replayability" to it, especially when you're using cheats to create a "Sandbox" session.

...Made for some stupidly crazy moments over at you mates place. LOL!

Remote mines plastered all over the facility level... no second guesses as to what happens next ;-)

Anyway... What are the things you remember from Goldeneye that you loved so much and what are the things that keep you coming back for more (even after all this time) for more (if you found it to be one of those games)?

I think my fondest memory of Goldeneye was just the amount of fun and bonding I had with my brother and sister, oh and, whenever the golden gun would respawn we would all run towards it to see who can get it first. I miss this game. They should totally do a remake of some sort that does the game justice, unlike the horrid Rouge Agent.

There isn't nothing really that i forget. . . i played this game alot and i remember playing it on each difficulty just to unlock the last to missions:) But some of me best memories would be, Playing the runway level and run straight for the tank and just blasting every thing and running over every one and then run off to the little plane. Another memory would be going over a friends house then we would call every one up and then a bunch of guys would show up with there controllers and then there would be a Golden eye tourney in the matter of minutes.

I also remember the cheat were u play with big heads.nic0008

And then i remember that:) i had to much fun playing with that cheat.

Speaking of crazy times at a friend's house. One time we had to go eat, so we said who ever gets the next kill wins. We both had golden guns and it was the caverns. After meeting up in a small area, we both fired and died at the exact same time. That was fricken HILARIOUS!

What kept me coming back was the multiplayer and I liked the task nature of the missions. The fact that you had all these tasks you could choose to do in your own order made the game feel less linear. Even though most of the time you had to follow the order, it was still a huge innovation for the time. The AI was also pretty amazing for the time, I remember shooting at a guy and missing, he quickly ran over to hit the alarm right after. That was cool. Now the AI is defnitely outdated, it's still fun to mess around with it sometimes(silencer  ).

Camping in the vents on that bathroom level, hiding behind those walls in the library level and closing them back and forth everytime somebody would try to get in to kill me, DK mode, all grenades, all rocket launchers, all choppers(not the AK47, but just karate chops), ahh those were the days!

What can you say? Simple, enjoyable gameplay and great level design. All you need for a great game. If anyone enjoyed the multiplayer in this game, I suggest looking out a copy of TS2. Made by most of the development team behind Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Uses the same formula, but focuses on multiplayer content over single player missions. A great game also.

As far as fondest memories go, I remember playing this game [Perfect Dark too] with my friend and his older brother [who was better than both of us]. They both were pretty good at it and LOVED the proximity mines. I spent the better amount of time scanning the floors, walls, & ceilings for those things and getting killed. Well, we had it set on one hit kills and I managed to sneak up on Chris [my friend's brother] and chop him. Seeing as how he was so much better than me I never let him live it down. I think I actually got him twice.

But, yeah. That was a good one. He died from a slap across the face. Glorious Victory!

I remember playing this at a friends house, oh the memories. I use to get mad at my friends because they would stay in one area, and because i didnt play much i didn't know really where they were, so they would kill me when i approached without knowing. What was really amazing about this is that i got so good, i started pwning all my friends at it. I must say, they stoped laughing at me once i showed them how a headshot was really done ;)

I wish i had this game today, id play it agian for hours on end!

Goldeneye is my favorite shooter of all time. It's just so much fun! I remember playing multiplayer with my friend and you know how Natalia's shirt is blue in the game? Well, he shot me in so many different places it turned completely red. It was really funny. It's interesting that the bloodstains stayed on the character regardless of how many times they died. Man, I still try to beat the game on the harder difficulties, and it's really hard! I love Goldeneye.

I never played multiplayer on it. I just remember playing the second level over and over. Shooting the scientists in the foot to see which one would pull a gun on me. Trying to fight off guards with 006, or playing through the event then hiding in the backroom, using cheats to get a bunch of guns, and mowing down as many as I could.

GoldenEye 007 was my introduction to the FPS genre (actually, the only FPS game I ever played "seriously") with an excellent multiplayer, the great single player mode, and pretty cheap if you want to get one ~ de arimashou :P

I love Goldeneye. I still like how the enemies react when you shoot them, something some current gen games lack (just standing there making grunting sounds while getting shot). I just loved replaying levels trying to earn cheats. Many caused great frustration, but they were worth it.

The whole game was a great memory, with friends or not 007 goldeneye was just one of the greatest home console FPS games ever. I never played PD but goldeneye was first so I say nothing was better in the 90's when it came to Goldeneye as an home console FPS that is. Because Doom still dominates over most FPS games lol imo during the 90's.

True dat. Those guns were amazing in the right hands.

Lol, Goldeneye invented multiplayer strategy of running around in circles.

It was the foot? I heard it was the hand. Whenever I shot them in both hands they would die. But mowing down all the guards was hella fun.

I definately remember playing the 4 player multiplayer with friends after school and basketball. We'd have a bunch of people over and just take turns on the rounds. It was in line with all of the other activities that we did when we hung out - playing cards, drinking, BBQ, watching football, play Goldeneye. When Halo came out, maybe times just changed for me; but I can't say that any other game was part of my social cycle on that level. Sure, these days, Street Fighter is on sometimes, but it's amazing how pretty much everyone I knew played Goldeneye to some extent in the n64 era.

Definately fond memories :D

Goldeneye 007 was probably one of my fondest video game experiences.
With all the FPS's and the technical advances in the genre out today, Goldeneye still stands out as one of the best. It's just very nostalgic for those of you like me who played it back in the day with all your friends and family under one roof, battling it out and chopping away campaign mode for hours and days with no end. For those of you who never played it, shame. It might not have the same effect as it did back in the day.

All in all, Goldeneye 007 ranks as one of my all-time favorite games.

I don't get it...

I got this game (only because I got it free with Banjo Kazooie) and got bored of it in 2 days. While multiplayer is very fun, the single player mode was terrible. Repetitive, boring with stupid enemies that lined up for you to shoot them down. Luckily it was preowned so there was a half completed game file but when I played the 2nd Siberia level I just gave up. Fog everywhere, endless enemies and there was no way of knowing where you were going.

Maybe because I got this game last year I don't apperciate it as much as the people who would have got it 10 years ago. Afterwards I stayed away from all FPSs until I got the Orange Box (which exceeded my expectations in every game).

Ah yes, GOLDENEYE.

I dont play it much anymore, but what i remember doing is getting the cheats and RUNNING EVERYBODY OVER WITH THE TANK ON RUNWAY

or KILLING EVERYBODY(not possible)ON BUNKER

Or my two friends and i putting on infinite health and shooting each other to see how bloody we would get.

oh and throwing mines on the computers on the ceiling in bunker.

funny.

Stage: Facility

Weapons: Remote mines

= Classic memories of angry siblings, cousins and friends who didn't know the bathroom stall trick to get back up inside the air shaft.
