It seems like I have to collect more stuff to open more lands. How do I know how many things have to be collected? I wasn't making much effort to pick up bubbles and so forth because I was trying to beat levels. But now I can't get more than the same dozen levels available. And how do you get to the build-a-level option?

@playerp: The game doesn't lock you from general progression in Little Big Planet. If you beat a story level it opens the next one.

On the case of unlocking, levels can have 'keys' which unlock mini game levels. These are not progression stoppers, usually none platforming focused bites to break up the monotony. They can unlock more prizes but are not essential.

Believe you need to beat every 'main' level in The Gardens to unlock your Moon. The Moon is your creation area. When you return to the Pod, instead of pressing the story icon scroll to your right and you should have access to the Moon and creation tools. That is assuming you have beaten The Gardens, which acts as a tutorial to your overall experience.

Happy Gaming

@RSM-HQ:But I only have maybe a dozen places to go to, and I've been to them all, collecting on average 30% of the stuff. There seem to be no more lands, although I keep turning the globe around. How many lands total should there be?

Yeah playing the levels doesn't count, you need to reach the scoreboard on each and every, this unlocks the next story level. Collection rate is for trophies and creative accessories does not relate towards progression in the story campaign. You need the scoreboard.

How many lands total should there be?

Think it would be far more helpful if you mentioned what you have access to, and what was the last creation 'world'/ or level you unlocked.

The Gardens has the following four levels-

  • Introduction
  • First Steps
  • Get a Grip
  • Skate to Victory

Mini levels- Tie Skipping, Skateboard Freefall, and Castle Climb Challenge (these are the ones unlocked with keys/ do not matter for progression)

You likely just skipped over one, just make sure you got to the scoreboard on the above main four levels.

And on that note here is the chronological order of worlds-

  • The Gardens
  • The Savannah
  • The Wedding
  • The Canyons
  • The Metropolis
  • The Islands
  • The Temples
  • The Wilderness

*Last story level in LBP, is in The Wilderness called 'The Collector'

@RSM-HQ: Thanks. I've definitely won all those levels. Is there a way of checking your progress to see which you have completed? It seems like you are just given percentages of stuff collected. And when you have finished them all what happens? Does a whole new planet come into view? Thanks!

@playerp: Yes if you press circle (back) from The Gardens a second world should be present to you when all of The Gardens is beaten. If you still don't have access to that or your Moon you have missed beating the final level in that world.

When you highlight a level for loading should be able to scroll progress from what prizes won and your high score, my assumption is that you may not have reached the end of Skate to Victory.

Which ends when you go on an oversized skateboard with a talking egg. The level can be done fairly easily so recommend just rushing through, avoid the ghosts and ride the skateboard to the scoreboard. Level end. Hopefully that fixes your troubles.

@RSM-HQ: Hi! I have won everything in "The Gardens". I can see and play in every world in your list until "Metropolis" which is not in view. Also when I hit the circle button to get a general view of each world, what are those moons on the side I can't access?

If you are past The Gardens should have access to your own moon from your pod you load into when starting up the game, though that is not related to story progression that has been an issue for you.

Sadly presented all that I can to help you figure out your issue myself_

As such. Might be worth looking up a video playthrough of Little Big Planet. Because the series has three main entries, two portables, a mobile, Move, and a kart game it would be worth writing it like so- 'Little Big Planet 1 PS3'

You don't need to even watch them in length, just scan the clips and see what you've missed.
