So I recently picked up a NES and a few Games and am planning on purchasing alot more. I would just see what other people think are the best games for NES, I grew up in the time it was very popular and I am an avid gamer so i have my basics covered. Just looking for those obscure gems not everyone knows of if you could suggest some it would be great.
Everyone has their own definition of what the basics, so Ill assume you mean Ninja Gaiden, Mario, Mega Man Zelda, Castlevania and Metroid. Some games that I enjoyed were Startropics, Life Force, Star Soldier, Batman, RC Pro Am, Duck Tales. Not sure what lese off the top of my head (Adventure is fun though hard, not to mention Blaster Master), but it would be cool if you could list what you had, so that I can see someone else's NES collection.
Topgun was hard. I could never land the plane and eventually never beat the game. Rad Racer is funny in that it was one of Square's first games; I think final Fantasy came out roughly after that.
The games that i have beides the marios zelda metroid are Snakes Revenge, TMNT the Arcade Game, Top Gun, and Battle Toads. I just picked up Punch Out, Jackal, and Smash TV. An I agree regarding Top Gun I never could land the plane when I was younger. I figured I would give it another try for a $1.95 but I still have problems landing the plane. When I do by chance land the plane re-fueling the plane is just as bad if not worse I have never got past that lvl 3. I do believe there is only 4 levels though. Thanks for the input all.
Everyone here have listed the basics. I'd add robowarrior and jackal. Those were fun. I didn't see anyone say contra or super contra either. Also, I'd buy tecmo bowl and double dribble to see how far we've come!

Final Fantasy was the most epic of the NES games, then comes Castlevania series as well as the Dragon Warrior's. Then the everyones faves Mario 1-3, Metroid.
Someone already mentioned Startropics (yoyo FTW). Bad Street Brawler (Old school streets of rage or double dragon style). the TMNT series is cool, the first being my favorite. Metal Gear (if you can beat that your a tank). Some like the Adventure Islands but I find them waaay too annoying. Faxanado (spelling?) was fun, buy the ****ing Mattok already! Contra if you like 2d shooters. Mega mans can be fun times. And if you like sports ICE HOCKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!

I'm a big fan of RPG's. The very first RPG that i ever played was in fact on 8-bit NES, and it was Dragon Warrior. I also love Dragon warrior 3. Great games if you like RPGs. BTW your avatar represents on of my favorite RPG's (Chrono Trigger).

I just bought Shadow of the Ninja-it's in the tradition of Ninja Gaiden. I have to tell someone b/c I can't contain myself, I just got a NES max controller, I highly recomend you get one of these-I personally think that the PS controller design was inspired by it (there's a webpage I can't mention on here that goes into more depth about it-but if u want to knw message me).
