That's right, some guy paid $41.300 for a sealed copy of Stadium Events, a NES game I honestly never heard of, topping the previous record holder, Campus Challenge 1991 (sold for a 'meager' $20.100). I'm baffled.

I saw a forum about this game going for over 13k. Pretty crazy. I actually have the cover of this game set as my desktop's background. I wouldn't be suprised that it sold for so much. Its the hardest to find nes game, especally new in the package. Well from what I have heard.

It's the combination of the game being both highly rare and still factory sealed. After all, who buys a game and then never opens it?

I like how it still has the price tag for $29.99.

This is why I keep my eye out for new N64 games and I only buy new Dreamcast games. For now prices are low on Dreamcast games but with its short run time I think they'll go up. I got a NIB factory sealed copy of Perfect Dark on the N64 that I hope will appreciate in value.

Honestly..... the plastic looks redone on that box. Original Nintendo carts back then were sealed with suction, not heat. You can clearly see how the wrap is tighter in the center and loose around the edges. Clearly indicative of shrink wrapping via a heat gun.

Nah, it's legit. On the ebay auction, there's tons of pictures of the plastic. It has the original "H-seam" running across it that all NES games had. There are people who seriously have spotting original shrinkwrap down to an art lol, and they say its original.

Extremely rare cart, one of gamings holy grails, believe it or not (the fact that this sold for over 40 grand ups the value of the Nintendo World Championships gold cart)- Nintendo bought the rights to the game and released it as World Class Track Meet.

Good quote. One could compare it to E.T., except without the rarity, just the sucking.

i remember stadium events. It was a game played with that NES pad thing you would run on. Well, run in place I should say. If the game the guy bought came with a pristine NES running pad then I could see paying a lot (as added collector value I mean. You can find working NES pads for much less of course, but I never see them anymore).

Yeah, that's insane for just a game. Even if it is rare, that's still insane! I've seen worse. Just days ago, a copy of Action Comics #1 (1st Superman Comic) sold for over $1,000,000! But at least that was from 1938 (pre-dates even WWII by a year), NES games aren't even close to that old. And it's a sports game at that! I don't know, I just don't understand. Maybe if it was a working PDP-1 Computer with the original SpaceWar! program. That has got to be the holy grail of video game collecting. -Nate-

Bear in mind that Superman is a cultural icon, the first superhero, and the reason for the comic book industry. Stadium events is just a bad game that people with too much cash in hand want.
