Does NES was the console that started the VG fever?

At least I think was the one that introduced almost a whole generation into playing VGs,

not saying that previous consoles didn't help.

The NES was the catalyst for what you see today. They had a great show on Discovery last winter called Rise of the Videogame that detailed the entire history of the industry, and they credit the NES with being the savior of an industry which was on it's deathbed. Sadly the show only lasted about six episodes.

I know speaking for myself I was just about past videogames and then came the NES to make me the person I am today, VG addicted and okay with it.
