I'm curious if there is a soul out there who can actually beat this game without the game genie. Even WITH the game genie its freakin' hard!

it's been years since i played this classic game, but yeah i beat it without the game genie. in fact i didn't get a game genie till i had my Genesis.that game was hella hard though. i remember being able to disarm the explosives in the water world without any problems at all. damn now i want to play TMNT to see if I still have what it takes. lol

I could get to the level where big mouser was the boss. the dam level I had a system down where I could beat it with only loosing one turtle which I thought wasn't too bad, cause if I did good in the van level I could rescue the turtle again.
I don't own a copy personally, but I played through it at a friend's house once. I beat it without codes or anything, but it is a pretty difficult game.
I always got to the Turtle Van level. When I got to the building that Splinter is being held in, I always lost. There was this impossible jump at the bottom of the building, in the sewer, and if you didn't make it you'd not only lose a block of health, but you'd be washed downstream and have to start the area from the beginning again! Frustrating as heck. I made it past that level like twice, ever. And made to some airport level, only to die there because each time I had so little life left.Emerald_Warrior
yeah that airport level was as tough as sin, and by the time you get there you're so banged up its tough to last long.
I couldn't beat it when I was a kid and I'm sure I can't now. I picked a copy of Super Mario Bros and couldn't beat that even after having had beaten it when I was 6 before.

I shouldn't go too off topic, but I got the original super mario brothers on wii vc recently and i beat it twice in a row, back to back, and as a kid i couldn't beat it, but yeah, some really tough games from when i was a kid i could beat, but not now.

I got mega man 2 on my phone, and I'm at the boss now, dr. willy? but are the only things that hurt him bubbles?
[QUOTE="Daavpuke"]I tried it a while back and got to the van level without any problems, but then I kept dying :(.dameon51
How did you find the dam level?
Hard, but not undoable. Just have to watch out not to lose any turtles. there's a cycle where you can do it without losing any or doing too much damage in general. Can't imagine playing that as a kid though, I get seriously pissed stil about how unfair that one sharp upper turn is...[QUOTE="dameon51"][QUOTE="Daavpuke"]I tried it a while back and got to the van level without any problems, but then I kept dying :(.Daavpuke

The games are easy. The only hard part is the trial and error the first playthrough when you have to learn a few pesky jumps and which levels are mandatory to progress through the game. I used to like it when I first got it because of the radical powerup weapons but after I got the Manhattan Project(which is the best turtles game imo) I stopped playing it.

Turtles 2 and 3 are really different than the first one though. They're beat-em-ups and the first one is a side scrolling action game. I like all of them though.
No the water section I have made it past not much further though and to be honest that game gives me alot of bad memories.
Ah, loved this game. Used to beat it with my brother, without losing a life.(wow, that sounded gross):?

the van level sorta reminds me of GTA2. lol overhead cam view in what appeared to be a large city :P i tried to find a pic to post, but couldn't find one. it's been a long time since i played that game, and the ven level was pretty darn hard if i remember correctly.

The hardest part about the van level was just figuring out where to go. Once you knew where everything was it wasn't TOO bad. I remember though at the end of the van level there was 2 bosses back to back and they sucked a lot of health away from you.

i'm getting the itch to bring my copy out and play it again. i wonder how dated and cheap it will feel?

I find the toughest part about brining out an old game is getting used to the controls. Some games like mario bros aged well, but a lot of nes games don't handle too well from a gameplay perspective.[QUOTE="zmbi_gmr"][QUOTE="dameon51"]

Seriously the first playthrough is tough, and for many people they gave up. I played this game so much that I can seriously beat the entire game without losing a turtle now... at least I could a couple years ago. After playing it for 20 years you learn the pattern though... lol
Like with most NES games once you beat it once it gets easier every time you play through it again.
2 and 3 were quite simple compared to the 1st one, even though they were completely different in comparison of gameplay.
