I was looking back at the past horror games, and reading the forums on how in Dead Space, the usage of guns kinda gave people a sense of saftey as they could just kill everything from a distance, and completely took the horror aspect out of the game. The scariest parts were always when in close combat, and so it got me thinking...

Has there ever been a game with a zombie outbreak in a medival setting? Think about it for a sec. Your in an english city, say london, with compressed housing, fighting Dead Space like zombies, with nothing but a shield and a sword. Obviously having a shield would help defend attacks, so its not all that unfair.

Personally, the thought of having to run up to a zombie to kill it is alot more scarier, especially if the only light is a candle you carry around.

Thoughts? Just throwing it out there.

Sounds cool, I'd like to see a game set in the past with zombies. What would also be cool is killing with the thnigs around you like a pitchfork, latern, things around the house.

I like it but to make a real survival horror ditch the shield idea.

....Running around in a dark forest with your pitch fork, then you are attacked by zombies. You drop your Torch and amongst the battle, it goes out. Your only light now, is the faint light from the castle in the distance. Now that would be scary

You're joking, right? Seeing zombie trying to tear past your shield to chew your brains out would be cool and terrifying at the same thing.

That is a good idea. I once played Silent Hill 2 without the flashlight or the radio(warned about enemies). It was exciting. Real brief, but exciting!

What about a 'Ghost hunter' type game like "Apparitions"-still in Beta I think. Only this time you fall naked into the Paris Catacombs through an open manhole cover   , and have to survive from there? Your enemies look like and come from shadows?

Not only that but with a shield you could up the zombie difficulty increasing the *danger* factor.

I would like a zombie RPG where you actually have to try and SURVIVE in a (George A Romero) zombie infested world. One bite: you die. Or are shot by other fearful survivors. Needing to find safe and secure places to rest. Think Fallout 3 meets Dead Rising. No 'super-zombies' or other stupid crap - just hordes upon hordes of single purposed flesh eaters. That would be sweet.

Used in the right way that could be a pretty neat idea. It would have to be in FPV IMO though. Something like would just look silly in 3rd person.

However, quite a few survival horror games already rely more on melee weapons (Silent Hill, Siren and Condemned being prime examples) and a medieval setting done in the wrong way could look extremely lame. Only a couple of exceptions ever give you too much firepower.

though none of them had swords with metal armour and a lack of any technology;)
