New X-Play video: Final Fantasy VII was awful!

Sigh...these guys are just looking for shocks now if this is the direction their taking the only video game related show on G4. I enjoyed FFVI more, but still, this is just silly, since Sessler calls out other fanboys, but then he does something like this on such an old title. Anyway...enjoy...or not.

There are other flaws, like the graphics that have aged badly, Yuffie, the fact that anything before Crazy Motorcycle just plain sucks, etc. Still a good game.

After watching the video, I really want to yell at Sessler. Not for insulting FF7, but for confusing overrated with bad. Here's the difference: Final Fantasy VII is overrated, Final Fantasy XII is bad. Overrated does not mean bad, it just means that people think it is much better than it actually is.

That had me laughing out loud. I think that it is a comedic masterpiece but it is a very flawed criticism. Sessler, whom I adore, is judging final fantasy seven through the prism of modern games. Yes, by that standards it does suck, so does goldeneye, perfect dark, and any other seminal game to have been released before 2000. I am not too mad about it, the random encounters were annoying. The graphics? ugly by today's standards but I still find it endearing. I love the super deform look and looking back at the infancy of the playstation they were mindblowing. I would agree that final fantasy was overhyped but that doens't mean it wasn't good.

also on that note

they automatically hate all JRPG's

Seems like they just did it to get peoples attention, IGN did it recently as well. I love final fantasy 7 and it was a great game for its time, i just think too many people hold it today's standards which is why it gets alot of hate because in truth it hasn't aged that well but that doesn't mean it wasn't something great when it initially released.

All this revisionist historical hate towards FF7 is ridiculous, they trash the game on its "dated" graphics, broken materia system, convoluted storyline etc etc, but some games have a unique place in history that cannot be denied and should not be denied their place. FF7 is one of those games. For its time it was the greatest, and even though better installments and better games have come out, it still ranks right up there.

I thought Final Fantasy VII was agood game. Ijust think it's not the masterpiece everybody makes it out to be. Also I wouldn't say it is one of the best RPGs or even best JRPG title around.

i still wonder why people actually care what sessler says anymore. he picks great games and goes around calling them garbage. he makes outragous claims like in his "re5 is racist" soapbox. its all to get easy hits. he isnt a journalist. hes a sensationalist.

FFVII was a great game esp for it's time but way to many people worship it as the greatest game ever and I think that's just silly.

No, it's more Yuffie's sidequest. If you accidentally land on that one island in the northwest, you're stuck there until you complete this inane sidequest and learn to hate Yuffie. Did Gau ever force you to waste half an hour of your time? No, just a few minutes.

That doesn't mean the graphics can't age badly. Look at FF9 or Silent Hill, which time has treated much more kindly.

as for it being overrated, i don't agree at all. overrated means it is high on fan/reviewer ratings, but if you yourself plays it(at time of release) and its just lackluster.

FF7 is not that. when you played it when it first came out, you know you thought "damn this is great". yea you look back on it and go "man the graphics aged bad" or "damn i really do hate random battles". but you gotta consider the time it was released. in 10 years, we'll look at games like gears of war and killzone 2 and go "man thats just not as good as i remember". its is what happenes when games get older.

true fans stay true to the game no matter how old they get. I still play ff9 and final fantasy tactics. i still love KOTOR.

I haven't watched X-Play in the longest time, nor have I watched the radioactive, filthy pile of crap that G4 has become in a long while, either.

And FFVII is my favorite Final Fantasy, with FFVI right behind it.

I feel the same way about chrono cross, and bob marley's music. Meaning I haven't explored rpg and reggae outside of those genres. Oh lets throw in rts too. I haven't played any rts through since starcraft. :P but I don't go around proclaiming them as the greatest, I just think it.

I used to watch that show but there opinions are very immature, Reviews on the Run, Electric Playground and EP-Daily are better shows and theyre on G4. Victor Lucas gives fairly good reviews. Its also Canadian.

I tried to watch the video, but I closed out of it because it represented feeling oppsoite of how I felt about Final Fantasy 7. Do I think Adam Sessler is an idiot for hating FF7 and thinking it's overrated? No, because it's just an opinion. However, I have noticed quite a bit of changes with Adam Sessler over the years. He just doesn't seem much like the same person I remembered him to be when I watched him several years ago. Maybe he was, but I have yet to have seen his true colors until recently, I dunno. All I know is that maybe he has turned out to be the, what someone else have mentioned, the Bill Oreilley of Games. And I dunno if he's really trying to compare the game of back then to today, because maybe that's how he felt about FF7 for a long time, but decided to make a video soley to state his opinion about it. Anyway, it doesn't really matter to me because it's just his opinion. Not everyone can like the same game. It's impossible.

Their opinion is just different from yours and I happen to agree with them. I'm mean once you had your group set up you didn't even have to button mash,you had the option of just holding down the button during the whole battle. This game isn't for the challenge oriented gamer butmore the story oriented gamer.
