notice how i said "get close" lol...who knows maybe the Final Fantasy has something up there sleeve this generation... could blow everything out of the water
I am skeptical that it will ever happen, but if choosing from the list you gave, I'd probably pick a fourth "None of the Above" option.m0zart
[QUOTE="Sharvie"]I don't think there will ever be a '10' game, not from Gamespot at least.VMan
Unless you mean from this point onward, it has already happened....multiple times.
Actually, only four times in Gamespot's history. And the last time was many years ago!

Well, the current rating system makes 9.5 as close as it will ever be, and there were already plenty of those this past year. There will never again be a 9.6 to 9.9 on Gamespot unless the rating system changes again.
They won't do it because everyone would be up in arms saying "no game is perfect" (although I don't think a 10 score necessarily means it's perfect, but rather as close as you can possibly get) and "BS it's overated" and "GS was payed off to do it". It just won't happen. E3BigC
Actually, Gamespot no longer defines a score of 10 to be "Perfect", rather "Prime", and its for that reason that I won't say it will never happen again.
None of those games will get a 10 on gamespot. Ever since square did their best on reshashing games, starting with ff10-2, they've lost their edge. FF12 had some of the worst audio quality, and some of the worst level griding out of any rpg. Then ff7, all the spin offs of its speak for theirselves.
Gta4, won't be perfect. Having an open world setting, means it'll have some issues. And fallout 3? For some reason, I believe it'll have nearly as many technical issues as oblivion.
Not too sure what the next game with a 10 would be. Metal gear solid 4 WAS a contender, but then they traded true full on multiplayer for basically a beta/demo of it. Thats enough to knock it down.
I'd just love to see duke nukem forever as the next 10. But with people hating stereotypes like that which the world needs, it won't get perfect just for that alone.
I don't think any of those games have a chance, given GS's track record. But, I got to ask (particularly because m0zart mentioned four) - which games did GS rate a 10 in the past? The only ones I can think of are Ocarina of Time and Chrono Cross.vgm007
And Soul Calibur and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 (PS2 version).

I think Brawl has a realistic shot at getting the elusive 10. It's scoring extremely high in Japan and got the perfect 40 in Famitsu. If that does happen, be sure to avoid System Wars for the rest of the month. That place will just get dangerous.Robio_basic
Yeah, I think Super Smash Bros. Brawl has a really good shot at getting a 10...I guess we'll find out next month...

One word, clones.
Who knows. But seriously THPS3 with a 10. Now thats just ridicuols. Ocarina of time I can understand, but a tony hawk game. who reviewed that game.EatBoxSocks666
Jeff Gerstmann. Same as the Ocarina of Time reviewer. And with a critic score of 9.3, his review pretty much mirrors other reviewers' opinions of the game.
Of course, if you're not a fan, that's fine. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

this got a 10? pathetic.
Apparently it was written by a huge RPG fanboy (I think from RPGGamer.com), big mistake. Probably out of any score/review i've ever seen on Gamespot, this one is probably the only one that actually annoys me to see. I personally, was sick of the game by the time it was over. I pretty much gave up trying to learn about the roughly 40 freakin' playable characters and eventually lost interest in the bland story and pointless turn-based battle system (considering the necessities of fighting in that game, it should've just been a real-time action system).
I've played plenty of better RPGs than Chrono Cross (like Grandia). Thats what can happen when you let an absolute genre fanatic write a review on genre-neutral site. Just look at RPG scores on Gamerankings. Even for the RPGs that score generally average-to-low from neutral publications its typical see reviews from sites like AllRPG.com get 9s anyway.
I won't bother to predict specifically, but I will say it will be a game you won't expect. I.E. not Grand Theft Auto, not Smash Bros, not FFXIII...

I don't think it will ever happen, but I do believe GTA4/Fallout 3/MGS4/Spore & LBP have a chance to score 9.5's though from GS.
only GTAIV and SSBB really have a chance imo. FFXIII is more of the same (even if i love it), and fallout hasnt shown me anything to imply a 10 score or anything close. i predict 8.5's for both as of this moment. SSBB has a good chance simply because its a very complete game, but we will see how it is actually scored. GTAIV has all the potential but does it do enough to advance the formula? who knows. itll be fun to see.
[QUOTE="EdgecrusherAza"]Kane & Lynch 2.hair001I'm surprised it took as long as it did for anyone to say it
Me too. That's why I felt it my duty to speak up. :P
Honestly, who cares about Gamespot giving a 10 though? It may have meant something at one time, but at this point in time who bloody cares?
Moreover, games have become so perfected within certain styles and genres, that for any mag or site that doesn't give out 10's very often it makes little sense to start now. It would be a case of "Well if THIS game is worth a 10, then why wasn't THAT game a year ago?" It would take something that's not only completely jaw-dropping, groundbreaking, and innovative, but also that delivers in every area. Something that's just a small improvement on the best of right NOW, just isn't enough to suddenly hand a 10. Unless as I said, your site or mag regularly hands out 10's to the top games every year.

Ugh...written during the Dark Age of Gamespot, before they added some professional reviewers who wrote from their minds and not their hearts and feelings. I'm shocked that the editor green lighted that slop. The Chrono Cross review is something I'd expect from someone's personal blog, not a professional review site.
