Very very rare items.
I'm wondering if any of you have ever come across or played one?

You'd have to have lived in Japan to see either. Nintendo racism at its finest there. Or is it xenophobia? I forget which is the more appropriate word for their attitude on this one. Hell, I'm just still feeling the pain after AVGN found out about the only GOOD bttf game being Japan-only while we got stuck with LJN's turd piles here in the states. If anything, I wish Gamespot did an "All time worst game COMPANIES", because LJN would have swept the whole thing for the absolute torture it brought us then.codezer0
I thought the N64 DD never made it stateside because it failed in Japan. Console add ons rarely succeed. Sega CD, 32x, GCN Broadband adapter, even today with the Wii Speak and WM+.
You guys should play The Punisher for NES then. IT is the exception to the LJN sucks rule. It is possibly the first rail-shooter made for a console, I'm not sure but I can't think of any others off the top of my head. Tons of fun to just blow everything in sight away and watch the 8-bit death and destruction.LJN was total dog pile on the rope leading out of the hole.

I have seen vids on youtube of the 64DD and it looked interesting, but nothing one really needed. Games and half-games that deserve to be mentioned are Doshin The Giant (also on GameCube; Japan and Europe only, though), Sim City 64 (basically a 3D version of Sim City), Mario Artist (the spiritual successor to Mario Paint I reckon) and F-Zero X Expansion Kit, which is an expansion pack for F-Zero X with new content and a track editor.
I know Nintendo did a bit fuss about this disc drive before it was released and I've also heard that the memory expansion (Expansion Pak) was designed because of 64DD. Games like Zelda 64 (later known as Ocarina of Time), Banjo-Kazooie 2 (Banjo-Tooie), Final Fantasy VII (you heard right) and Conker 64 (Bad Fur Day) were originally planned for the 64DD, but moved to cartridge only (or were scrapped on the N64). There was even a verison of Unreal in the works for 64DD.
Needless to say 64DD flopped and only saw a limited release in Japan. They should have went with CDs since start, really.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that it bombed in Japan? ;)
edit: oh, and I haven't seen the N64 mouse. Would be good for N64's FPS and RTS game I'd say.
well the wii speak and motion plus are not add-ons they are actually accessories
add-ons = things that cost over 100 for the most part and are supposed to play different forms of games that when console is released didnt originally come packed with
-such as kenict and move
those are add-on's instead of accessories because they didnt launch for the same type of games the console originally launched for
-eg traditional pad was ps3 and 360s originating controller/standard
the sega cd 32x are add-ons they played either supposively better graphics that a standard genesis would not
and the cd obviously is a cd based add-on to the genesis it failed
n64 dd same thing
hencewhy it stayed in japan
as did the hybrid gamecube and psx -the ps2 that could record etc \
the list of canceled games are as follows for 64 or 64 dd
gta
super mario 64 2
fzero x expansion
resident evil 0=moved to nintendo gamecube later remastered for wii
kameo -moved all the way to the xbox360
perfect dark zero-moved to gc then to xbox then to xbox360
nightmare creatures 2-made for ps1 only
-dinasour planet-became starfox adventure gamecube
-ffvii -got put on ps1 instead
also japan got versions of games that supported rumble we didnt get
wave race 64 and super mario 64
and im sure japan got mother 3 ? am i correct
full list of these a nd more games can be found at wikipedia
