Is the gamecube a good and reliable system? I mean, If I buy it now used would I still be able to play it for a while?

Also, can you guys give me a list of 5 must have gamecube games (besides super smash bros melee and resident evil 4) that every owner of the system needs to have? thanks.

yes... the game cube is great and it last a long time... and the CD can have a lot of scratches and still work..

there is a sticky on the top of legacy platforms... but you should get zelda, pikmin, tales of synphonia, freaky flyers, cel damage(although the last 2 are not exclusive)

The gamecube is quiet reliable, i have drop mien ton of times and it works like a charm but i think your better off buying a Wii and grabbing yourself only the memory cards and the remotes, and you get the best of two worlds.

I'd say it's rather reliable. Haven't really had problems with it so far. Paper Mario, Metroid Prime, Tales Of Symphonia, Baiten Kaitos, Mario Kart.

Tales of Symphonia and Paper mario have already been mentioned, but they're definitely must haves

But there are also some good games which aren't must have but I personally love, like Mario Kart, LOTR the return of the king, pokemon colosseum, even the beyblade game lol

I've had mine for more then 8 years with heavy use, and it works very well. The only problem with it is that the reset button has never worked, but why would you need a reset button anyway? I haven't ever heard of a Gamecube dying like the PS1/2 and Xbox/360 often do.

As for games

Zelda WW and Twilight princess

Custom Robo

Metroid prime 1 & 2

Soul caliber 2 (best version if you don't have it. has better graphics then PS2 and Xbox version for some reason)

Mario Kart double dash

Resident evil 4

Metal gear solid Twin Snakes

Sonic Adventure 2 (If you don't own a Dreamcast)

Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 (three isn't near as good as the other two)

yes the gamecube is very reliable. if you get it i would suggest getting super mario sunshine, metroid prime series (prime 1, 2), star fox series (star fox adventures, star fox assault), pikmin series (pikmin 1, 2), zelda series (TLoZ WW, TLoZ TP), and many more.

I don't want a Wii. My only intentions are to play gamecube games and I rather pay 20 bucks for a gamecube just to play gamecube games rather than pay 150 for a wii just to play gamecube games.

Gamecube's are built like tanks, the only way you're breaking it is by trying to. The discs are thick and durable as well. F-Zero GX Metroid Prime 1&2 Zelda Wind Waker and Twilight Princess (TP is better on Gamecube than on wii) Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes Ikaruga

Who can say since you'd be buying it used. I'd take a new Wii over it since it can play Gamecube games. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Tales of Symphonia, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Sunshine would be my top 5 games for the system.

Never ever had a problem with my GC other than a dodgy reset button that got jammed in. As for games, I would go for F-zero gx, wind waker, viewtiful joe. Those were my 3 favorite games on the system.

great list of games to recomend. I way prefered the Gamecube controller for Soul Calibur 2 aswell. I defintely recomend Rouge Squadron 3 aswell because it comes with a co-op version of Rouge Squadron 2 on the disc.

Thats true, I forgot that rogue squadron 3 had coop, but I didn't like three otherwise. Sort of got away from flying way to much for me.

Forgot about smash brothers. Great multiplayer game

I can't beilve nobody has mentioned this game..... Killer 7 it is a strange game but very interesting. Also Fire Emblem Path of Radience it is one of the easyer titles in the serios but if it is your first one then it will proubly be challanging. Skies of Arcadia Legends if you don't have the dreamcast version. Sonic Heros is probly the best sonic game this generation. (which is not saying much but it is a good game and it is a freash new take on the 3-D sonic world) I think everbody else has metiond the other must have games so good luke and search the reviews to see which games best fit your game genre prefercne

If you want an enjoyable zelda rip off and what I consider to be RARE's last great game before they jumped ship, Pick up Star Fox Adventures. Really good music and great gameplay in this one. Very polished. I cant recommend it enough.

The GameCube is a great system, better than its Sony and XBox counterparts.  Best games on the system incude Eternal Darkness (perhaps one of the best games I ever played) and LOTR: The Third Age (better on GC than the other systems).  Pikmin also was a fun game.  I never owned the Wii, but I understand that it does play GC games.

It's a decent system to collect for. Some titles I would recommend besides RE4 and Melee are Animal Crossing, Resident Evil 0, Super Mario Sunshine (sue me), Star Fox Adventures (sue me), and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

The gamecube is easily the most reliable system of its generation. Everybody I know that still has one, has a fully functional one.

Must haves include

1) Pikmin

2) Pikmin 2

3) The Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker

4) Metroid Prime

5) Resident Evil remake

God I love the gamecube... One of my all time favourite consoles

It is a very solid little system. Ive never known one to break, and I have seen some pretty heavily abused Gamecubes that still somehow work. But terms of a top 5, here is mine:

1. Resident Evil REmake

2. The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess

3. Ikaruga

4. Sonic Gem Collection

5. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

Only had one GC die on me, which was my original one I got in early 2002. I got lots of mileage out of it, though. The current one I have I bought pre-owned a few years ago and the only issue I've had was that it has trouble reading games sometimes, but cleaning the lens with compressed air did the trick.

1) Metroid Prime

2) Wind Waker

3) Resident Evil remake

4) Eternal Darkness

5) Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader

Honorable mentions:

1) F-Zero GX

2) Super Monkey Ball 2

3) Pikmin 2

4) Tales of Symphonia

5) Paper Mario: TTYD

Outside of the Power button, the GameCube is probably one of the most durable game systems ever. You could have that thing run over by a truck and it'd still play games. There's a reason some people say Nintendo makes their systems out of Nintendium. They make all their systems Tonka Tough.
