You mean they release a new console each generation so they can continue to compete?

Yeah, that's kind of how the industry works

Every game company does this. Also handhelds and home consoles are considered seperate areas.

Yes. It's called "progress".

I don't understand your point at all. Every console manufacturer does this every few years, you can't just bring out one console and expect it to last forever.

Nintendo starts out with the N64, then GCN, then GBA, and now they have the Wii which leaves us gamers high and dry with no new consoles to play with. Ok, grammar, facts, and ideas are all generally wrong in this. Re-think your statement and try again.

It's how gaming works. There comes a point when a console has hit its limit in terms of what it can handle. Graphics, artificial intelligence, objects on screen, control input methods, and frame rates all change over time and eventually you need new hardware to keep up with the industry standard. Atari did it: Pong->2600->5200->7800->Jaguar->Jaguar CD SEGA did it: SG-1000->Master System->Genesis->SEGA CD and 32X->Saturn->Dreamcast Sony did it: PS1->PS2->PS3 NEC/Hudson did it: Turbografx->Turbo CD->Supergrafx->PC-Engine FX Microsoft did it: Xbox->Xbox 360 And Nintendo did it with home consoles: Color TV game->NES->Famicom Disk System->Super Nintendo->Nintendo 64->Gamecube->Wii and with handhelds: Game and Watch->Game Boy series->Game Boy Color->Game Boy Advance series->Nintendo DS series->3DS It's a simple fact of the video game industry. Hardware changes over time. Nintendo is not alone in this.

i dont understand what you're saying :S

obviously they are gonna keep moving forward because technology is always changing. they are just upgrading each line of models to meet new needs of gamers everywhere. theres not one company who doesnt do this and if they did, they would be bankrupt. so you cant expect people to slow down when theres progress being made. if you wanna stick with the old consoles, fine, but you shouldnt compare it to the newer ones and expect to win.

Just to drive the point even further...

Magnavox did it:
Odyssey -> Odyssey²

Bandai did it:
WonderSwan -> WonderSwan Color -> SwanCrystal

SDK did it:
Neo Geo AES -> Neo Geo CD
Neo Geo Pocket -> Neo Geo Pocket Color
