I am very disappoint.

Do we... do we... do we need aDoomIV? Really. Back in the day Doom/Doom II were awesome games because they changed the standard of game design. There were plenty of lesser shooters that came out before Doom, butDOOM was the game of that time. Mostly because it was on severalconsoles.
Doom III was a bit lame in comparison. Doom II was an extension of Doom and Doom was a reincarnation of both. So what would Doom IV be? I can't think of a necessary direction for Doom VI. Doom IV would be too soon. There is really nothing Doom can transcend into.
Games like Duke3D, Blood & Redneck Rampage were much better anyway.
Doom I and II were, and still are, incredible games that have replayability up the ass. Carmack has said after many people were disappointed with the direction the series took with Doom 3, they are now going to go back to what makes Doom so great: tons of enemies on screen at once, choas, and a great atmosphere. I personally can't wait to see it. Imagine the graphics of Doom 3 being used in the origianl. It'd be incredible. Doom is Doom, it doesn't need to change or transcend into something else. It's fine the way it is, all that's required is to bring it up to today's standards. That's what it sounds like they're doing based on what Carmack said.
The next phase would be Hell on earth. I think the Doom 3 engine could produce a much better hell on earth. Because really The Whole space station & hell on earth were irrelevant to Doom I & II. It was all just a bunch of blocks and slime. Everything just looked like a block maze.
