No more PS2 forums?

The legacy forums is a great idea, I've been wanting something like this, and apparently a lot of others have too. But did GS really have to eliminate the PS2, XBox & Gamecube forums to make the legacy forums? I guess I can understand XBox and GC, since they're pretty much obsolete. But the PS2 is still alive and kicking, isn't it popular enough to have a forum?

Anyways, my personal suggestion, for whatever it's worth, is as follows:

Break the legacy forums up into 2 seperate forums - 1) classic consoles forums and 2) last-gen consoles

I guess we'll see how this plays out, but I'm guessing this forum will basically turn into the new PS2 forum, and all the other systems will be overshadowed, therefore defeating the purpose of the forum to begin with.

The XBOX forums were VERY much alive, my friend. STUPID decision. We had 10 new topics a day, and multiple posts in each topic along w/several regulars. The freaking PS2 I DO NOT understand, I mean, that system is VERY much alive!!! Games are still being released for it, and it is still really popular. Gamespot screwed the pooch on this one. I mean, my XBOX topics are already on the 3rd page after 1 hour?!?!?!? Ridiculous It will probably just turn into system wars, anyway.

I know I and several others were in active in the Xbox forum (though I must protest that it is not dead), and the PlayStation 2 still has games coming out on it. I could see the Legacy for pre-last-gen, but to include PS2, Xbox, and GameCube seems to be a mistake, to my thinking.

Couldn't agree with you more. I see no reason to combine the old generations and last gen. If you don't want to give each last gen console their own forum back, so be it, but at least combine the 3 of them into their own forum. The Legacy forums should really be based on the consoles of old.

I agree 100 percent. I understand the need to simplify. I don't use IGN because it looks like it was made by someone who's been taking crack instead of their prozac. But this is OVER-simplification, it takes away a lot of the enjoyment. Kind of like what they did to the review system.

Well I was a regular at the PS2 forums, I am as disappointed as you all are with our respective boards being shown the door. Looking on the bright side, it will be good to have new faces round here. As for yout topic being 3 pages down already, meh, dont worry, these boards will die down eventually and only the same good ol' group will remain.

Admittedly, it will be nice to see topics other than which Final Fantasy is this or that and other topics.

Gamespot screwed on this one. Hopefully PS2 will remain alive, even without its own forum. I also miss the GBA forum, but that's just me..:P

Yeah just cause all the Gamespot people have new systems, they think everyone else is gonan get one right away I guess. Too bad the PS2 will dominate for probably at least 3 more years.earthmonkeyyy

This is like being banned from GameFAQs all over again, sure I can still make a conversation about it but I will have be specific about everything and you can't really get into the discussion. This would've made a great 'classic' thread, remember when the dreamcast, ps1, and n64 had their own pages (and I'm guessing forums aswell) this would've been like a succesor, but I'm afraid it was a mistake clustering ALL of the previous consoles together.

I may not own any next-gen consoles, but my PS2 still satisfys my gaming needs excellently. Best console I own besides my SNES.

Right now I'm playing Okami, Rock Band, and Guitar Hero 3 on my PS2.

I still used the PS2 forums...

Definition: Outdated or discontinued: Associated with something that is outdated or discontinued.

"Legacy Platform" does not seem to me a very fitting label for the Ps2, it is neither outdated nor discontinued. Not only are new games continuing to be released for the system, but the hardware itself is still being manufactured and undergoing new revisions.

The old Ps2 forum was still very active, transplanting it into a jumbled franken-forum doesn't make anything easier for anybody. I think having a "legacy platforms" forum is a great idea, but not if it means the elimination of other frequently used and appropriately specific forums.

I think all three should have stayed. The Xbox might not have had new games come out recently, but there was still a fair amount of activity going on in the board. There were several regulars as well as many people coming in to ask questions. I'm sure it would have been similar on the GameCube board as well. And, yes, the PlayStation 2 does still have games coming out, but it should not be alone in having its own board.

And that's probably the reason the PS2 got lumped together with the legacy platforms. It would be very impolitic to dump the Xbox and the Gamcube into the legacy forums and not the PS2. Imagine the outrage that would result. Yes, the PS2 is still alive and kicking, but placing it in the legacy forums with the Xbox and Gamecube is probably the only way to keep the peace.

Agreed, I'd much rather have an Xbox-PS2-GC forum and a true 'legacy' forum for..well, anything before those. D:fepepinar

Or, just don't put the GameCube and the Xbox in the Legacy forum. It's not like the Xbox forum was dead.

I was pissed when I found out that the PS2 forums is gone. 99% of the time I'm here at gamespot is in the PS2 forums. The other 1% is reading PS2 game reviews. :)

Same here. I'm basically either in the Xbox forum, the Off-Topic forum, or looking at games in production.

I just came from GameStop. Most of the people in there were browsing the PS2 section.

The bad decisions made at this site continue to amaze me. It's almost as if GameSpot is trying to commit account suicide.

They may be "dead" by your definition, but they're still relatively current and widely available systems, so lumping them in with classic consoles just doesn't make sense.

And throwing the PS2 in makes even less sense.

It may be that there are no new games coming out for the systems, but they are not dead.

Gamespot moderators are rather abusive by either deleting all messages/topics about the PS2 forum or locking them.metalgear-solid

Because the complaints belong in the Site Feedback/Enhancements forum.

But I doubt that the forums will go back to the way they were before, anyway... :cry:
