With December here we have just little under two months before the remake of Resident Evil 2 is in our grasp. Stocking up on shotgun shells, boarding up windows, and managing inventory to survive against a city turned evil.

Purpose of this thread is to gauge excitement on Games Discussion. And let the community express how they're feeling for the game now that it's close by_

Are you a fan of the series? New and interested? not really, but like Survival Horror? May even have worries that it's not faithful enough to the original? Regardless, feel free to post below.

*As someone who's been on media blackout for this game since after e3, and sure some have as well, would appreciate no screenshots or video promotional material below that is set after e3 reveal. Thank you.

8/10 is more reasonable for me. I want more clarification on things absolutely. However, I haven't been excited for a RE game since RE7 debut almost 2 years ago. It's my most wanted game right now and my first pick up game in 2019!

I already pre-order the PC version, I gotta have my 1440p/60fps+ ya'know ;)

It's amazing how far we've come in 20 years couldn't imagine my 1998 self seeing the 2019 version.

I'd be ok with an 8/10. Find it difficult to value scores from places like Gamespot anyhow. Most what they've scored an 8/10 I view better games than GS 9-10/10s but that's just me (GS gave Fallout 4 a 9/10).

Personally think GS downscoring Monster Hunter: World for being too difficult end-game is a joke. Doesn't even have G-Rank or the tougher High hunts, you get one challenge at HR100 but I doubt they ever got close to HR100. No wonder they never covered Events like the Arcs or Behemoths.

However, I haven't been excited for a RE game since RE7 debut almost 2 years ago.

So the last one. . . lol

Hoping for more The Evil Within 2 with a bigger budget than Resi7 honestly. Resi7 was very on-rails and overly cinematic with a very underwhelming final act. One playthrough and you realise how scripted it is, and lacking in other areas. After the Margaret boss 7 has shown all its best tricks and goes downhill_

Also the sooner sneaking becomes completely optional the better. I'm more interested in playing Resident Evil, not Outlast. And while changes are clearly being made I hope they keep true to the original in its pacing and overall tone.

I do like the atmosphere, definitely taking cues from the other Remake for lighting and dim contrast.

Likewise, I would love Nemesis to follow this if it's successful and gives the original justice.

I wish I could contribute to this. I've only played a little of 7 and I didn't like it. I'll play them one day though. :(

@speeny: Resident Evil 7 is a tough one to start with, perspective makes the gameplay cumbersome, very scripted, and the beginning is long-winded.

If I recommended someone trying Resident Evil for the first time? it's either Resi4 or Remake. They have controls and mechanics from an older time but after a short time you'll adapt. They're also easily the highlights in the series, and will give someone a good idea why Resident Evil is a beloved franchise. Resident Evil 4 is also probably the closest in common to this upcoming Remake of 2, I just imagine this new game to give less ammo and focus on vulnerability far more.

Personally started with Outbreak and that was an online game with up to 4-players, and while I enjoyed it don't rate it very high now that I've played more of the games.

@RSM-HQ: never played the original, apparently this one is not quite the same - gs called its play style a remix of re2 and re4 - and the environments are tweaked too. would you say this one will be ok for new players or is it more one for the nostalgic?

Have a habit of letting hype carry me for my gaming preference (this and Devil May Cry 5 for 2019), so would rather not make bold claims till the dust has settled and I can be rational with my impressions_

What I do know is the lead studio for Remake2 was responsible for the Remaster of HD Remake and Zero. Think it's safe to assume it'll have pacing and difficulty closer to the original game. The studio clearly has a lot of respect for the older games, considering they essentially recreated the two Gamecube games to run on HD systems.

Whether or not it's a perfect balance of new and old for everyone to enjoy, I could not say with certainty.

I've never played a Resident Evil game, but back in the day I watched my brother complete RE1, RE2, Nemesis, Code Veronica, and RE4. They were really fun to watch. I guess this will be the 1st one I play. Strange how RE is a game I truly enjoy, yet I've never played it :)

@worlds_apart: Many never start with playing the originals in franchises anyhow.

Because you've seen many the best games, at least you have visual experience, which will be handy

fair enough, i don't think it's a game i'll consider at full price unless the reviews are overwhelmingly gushing, more likely in a few months when it drops a bit. i'll keep an eye on it, maybe two

I do have a question regarding RE2. I didn't become a fan of RE until RE4, the first one I played on Gamecube years back. I bought it again on 360, then again on Xbox One X. RE5 was... ok. RE6 I actually liked, the setting/location any way. Revelations wasn't too bad, either. RE7 was first person as you all know and I liked that even more than RE4. I tried RE1 original with the tank controls.. didn't like it. For it's time, I bet it was a hoot, but I didn't like it. Then there was RE on N64, which I didn't try back then but would if I saw it to buy in a retro game store today.

Anyway, with my background in the game aside... why does RE2 look like RE4 with over-the-shoulder aiming? Is this how it was with the original RE2 years back? Or is this something new they did with the game? If I like RE4, 6 and 7 would I like RE2? Will RE2 have co-op online or just an a.i. tag-along character?

@Macutchi: Would assume if you could never get into The Evil Within, Resident Evil 2 Remake is an understandable avoid experience. Cut from the exact same cloth from my understanding. Better to avoid games you know are not your type of experience. And that's ok_

Resident Evil 5 are more Gears of War, and Revelations 2 I want to state is more like The Last of Us. Depending on preference, they're the two I think can be enjoyed by a returning or different audience. Zero, Rev, 6 are weird hybrids I recommend most avoid regardless of preference. And this is from someone who found some fun in Rev and 6, but they're overall bad games.

It's trying to be faithful to the original Resident Evil 2 which was fixed cameras and tank controls, while having modern standards. Hence the removal of fixed camera replaced with over-the-shoulder perspective.

(Resident Evil 2 original above)

I don't think the Remake game will have coop unless a Extreme Battle Mode allows it which was the original version of Mercenaries. And personally think that's for the best, this is a recreation of a Survival Horror game, not an Action Adventure game.

I would however imagine if you liked Resi4, chances are you'll enjoy the Remake of 2 if what was putting you off the originals was its drastically different controls and fixed camera angles.

It looks like RE4 (and 5, 6) because that's what it looks like, when you do over-the-shoulder perspective and no, it wasn't like that for original RE2. The original used fixed camera angles and tank controls, like RE1. So yes, this is something new. This is a remake of RE2, not just a remaster with a new coat of paint. If you liked RE4, 5, and 6, yes, you will likely enjoy this RE2. Based on information we received from Capcom, it looks like it has no online modes. It seems it has no co-op in anyway.

@RSM-HQ: @davillain-: So it's trying to be faithful to the original game on PS1? After reading the feedback from both of you, I'll take into consideration buying this remake on Xbox One. Thanks.

@evil_loli: What I'm implying is the developer wants to try and please both audiences, and no one can really state if it'll pay off or not. Many early impressions exist however, and they seem mostly positive.

Take that as you will.

I read the Playstation blog spot not so long ago. The guy talked about RE2.

Apparently there is two gameplay style. More shooting like RE4 when you play Leon and more classic RE2 with Claire where you have puzzle and section where you need to take care of the girl.

@RSM-HQ:

That is so true dude! Nemesis as follow up would be AMAZING. After the third game I never got that interested in Resident Evil. Resident Evil 4 I didn´t like the setting. Resident Evil 5 well I stopped playing when I arrived at the containers where you have to jump on to avoid all the zombies below... Resident Evil 6 was too crazy bosses were huge it was like playing an arcade game (House of the Dead) At least the bossfights remind me to this. And Resident Evil 7? I don´t like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre theme. It is a good game - just not my cup of tea.

cheers!

I'm more referring to people just dumping videos and open pictures that cannot be ignored when jumping in the thread. GD a board that had vocal Users spoiling The Evil Within 2 and Resident Evil 7 before release due to Youtube leaks of the endings. And that was very annoying for someone like me_

However if someone hides them in a spoiler tag? that is acceptable.

Just don't do the former please. For Gamers like myself that want to experience it themselves as they play the game. Thank you.

Pretty hard to not spoiler a 20 yr old game is a bit of a stretch ya'know :P

But anyways, I gotcha, nothing really to spoiled about since I watch the latest E3 footage of the game and I heard rumors that Capcom will drop a Demo of the game for those who want to get a taste of this remake this Month or so I heard.

By the way, since we are talking about Resident Evil in this thread here. I was always wondering, what is you're favorite RE movie? I like the first live action and RE Degeneration.

@davillain-: I know its a joke but the original Resident Evil didn't have Crimson Heads or Lisa Trevor. It's these kind of changes I'm most looking forward to in Remake2. The original Resi2 was suppose to have zoo animal zombies and a little theory of mine is they may add it into the new version, they had them in the Outbreak games and worked well.

By the way, since we are talking about Resident Evil in this thread here. I was always wondering, what is you're favorite RE movie? I like the first live action and RE Degeneration.

I'm going to come across as extremely boring, but I don't like movies really at all. It's rare I ever see any, and are usually dragged by friends. Never seen a single Resi movie, CGI or Hollywood blockbuster. They've commonly been labelled as pretty bad, and not canon to the series so my assumption is I wasn't missing out.

I have however been to see Bio Terror. Because I suffer from a certain visual disorder though, could not stay for the full experience.

I can’t believe so much time has passed since the original RE2, one of my favourite games! So my hype level for this is very high...12/10 on the hype meter ?Seriously the graphics on this are amazing!

I played all the Resident Evil games and I would have to say that my favorite Resident Evil game is Resident Evil 6.

Oddly so, the graphics for Resident Evil 6 on the PS4 look like crap and I absolutely loved how the game looks for the PS3. I think it looks just as good for the Xbox 360 as it does for the PS3 and I would probably buy an Xbox 360 just for that particular game, so yeah, it's an amazing game.

I'll look into biohazard 2, I had purchased biohazard1 for the PS4 @ GameStop but as soon as I took the game to the front of the cashier desk, I replaced it for something else. I don't know, I played the demo version and I liked the video game but it didn't have that certain 3rd person feel to it that I had wanted as to suppose, Resident Evil 6.

Oh and The Evil Within 2 is a dope game, loved it and although it can pass for a spin off from the other Resident Evil games, it has some absolutely DOPE scenes and by all means, DOPE.. I mean, some of the scenes were so freaking amazing, I fell in love with it and at one point, I thought the game itself was an actual, "Resident Evil" game.

@iamill99: My favorite part of Resident Evil 6 was this Spore monster in the chapel with Leon. And the thing goes around infecting the townsfolk. If killed quick enough the chapel has survivors and think that's a well designed part of an otherwise very mixed experience. Resident Evil 6 was a game that did many elements really poorly, though it also had sections that felt like a good Resi game, and Merc mode was arguably the series best multiplayer mode_

The jump-back crawl/ aim is also hilarious

I'm actually really nervous and worried about this game, after having grown up playing the og RE2 on PSOne. I really do not want them to ruin it. Og RE2 holds a special place in my heart and has done for a very long time, so I personally wish that the Remake was not happening.

Having said that though, I did recently buy the Limited Collector edition which comes with the Steelbook and og soundtrack swap, which for me is a must have. Not sure what to think of the actual game though, just hope it does the og game some justice!

@xselphie1999x: I understand your concern, majority of remakes also just don't turn out very well and tamper too much with the original games message, mechanics and overall gameplay.

The original Remake of Resident Evil being a rare exception, yet it's well known most that made Capcom special back then are no longer with the publisher, most noteworthy being Directors/ Producers and Game Designers Mikami Shinji, Kamiya Hideki, and Kobayashi Hiroyuki san who went on to make other great games_

Apparently Kamiya Hideki san did heavily influence staff at current Capcom to recreate Resident Evil 2, particularly the studio behind the recent and very faithful HD ports of Remake and Zero.

But again I understand your worry. Resident Evil hasn't exactly been amazing for a long time. And that includes Resident Evil 7 and Rev2, which are on the right track but still missing essential aspects that made earlier games replayable and memorable. Kinda slipped downhill after Resi4 for me. But I know some feel it was post Gamecube Remake.

@uninspiredcup: While that is a minimal spoil, is my first time glancing at Ada in Remake 2 (didn't load up previously). Weird how Ada and the Zombie girl exchanged Ruby/ Imperial Red. Though I suppose the zombie is suppose to look very wear and tear so it's closer to Indian Red.

Outside of Resi6 I think Ada always canonically had Ruby represent her color palette so it's interesting modern Capcom prefer the bold red over a pinkish hue.

Capcom should bring Ark Thompson, Leon's best friend to this game.(At least the first cutscene of Leon)

@dorog1995: Good point, whether many fans like it or not Survivor is considered canon. Referenced in the official prequel to the original game, Biohazard/ Resident Evil: Zero.

Would be a nice nod towards one of the spin-offs despite them heavily varying in quality. Outbreak got a nice nod in VII.

I never played the second but the footage of the large man, with the trench coat and hat, who kept stalking his prey sold me.

I have Resident Evil 2 pre-ordered onto my X1. It's the only game I am hyped for 2019,and hopefully Halo: Infinite?

@Solaryellow: Mr X is essentially a better version of the final boss of the original game. The hat is new (and very stylish) but the jacket serves as a limiter to prevent it transforming.

Just to line up the other games, hoping we see other Tyrants as well at least moving in the background. No reason Nemesis and T-0400TP can't be shown serving as easter eggs. As they did move around the city roughly the same time Resident Evil 2 took place.

@RSM-HQ:

Quick question, when did that Resident Kinevil marathon with Mike Mahardy and Mary Kish start and end ?
