I'm really looking forward to this game, I was even more hype about this game than Street Fighter 4. Have you guys seen the 2D sprites on the game; this game has set a new mark in terms of 2d graphics for 2d fighters. However It seem I'm the one of the few people who are looking forward to this. If you have no idea what Im talking about google it and look at the gameplay video.

I guess because it's King Of Fighters, and there has been so many fighting games lately, like SFIIHDRemix, SFIV and now MvC2

To be honest, I think the reason is because King of Fighters has never had the following that are the likes of Street Fighter or Tekken. Don't get me wrong. I am a fan of King of Fighters and I too am looking forward to XII, but it's more of a niche title. That is all just fine though. Games like this are actually good for the genre. They amass a smaller yet dedicated following and a lot of ideas come from title like this because they often dare to be a bit more creative than bigger titles are allowed to be by publishers. Don't worry about King of Fighters not getting as much credit as Street Fighter. It never has and never will... and that really is a good thing.

im not too stoked about KoF because i never really liked their combat system. it has great characters and the super combo/finishers are eye-catchy but the combat pales to third strike.

Yeah there's never been the same amount of hype for a KoF game as say something like Street Fighter but it definitely has it's own following. I've always loved the KoF games and this one looks amazing so I'm very pumped to get this game.

My personal reason for lack of interest in this game is characters.

I'm somewhat interested, but the roster so far has been disappointing to me.

KOF never gets hype. The series consistently delivers top of the line games, but usually go far enough over the heads of the general gaming public that only the hardcore can really play and stick with them in the long run. It's like 2D Fighting's VF.

I never really got the impression that the King of Fighters series was terribly popular. And now it's coming out at a time when the market is already pretty packed with fighting games, and not just 3D ones.

For me it's because I'm psyched for BlazBlue. I'm also still playing a lot of Street Fighter IV and planning on getting MvC 2,so I don't see any need for KoF.

Pat's reason is a good one. Additionally, I'd like to say that it doesn't have a large following. I'm not a fan not because the games are poor, but because I like to get into a combat system on the ground floor. I know about mixups, QCFs and the like. And although I may want to, I don't have the time to learn a different(if equal) combat system.

Fighting games are pretty much niche already, and KoF has always been more niche than most fighting games series like DOA, Tekken, Street Figther, SoulCalibur. But KoFXII is the best thing to happen to the series, but I think it'll still only excite KoF fans.

1) It's 2D in a 3D fighting game era

2) It's techincal, and techincal fighters never get attention due to how they shun casual gamers(why did you think VF5 didn't sell as well as SC4?)

Well, I'm not terribly excited atm because the roster is woefully lacking. No K' is one thing, but no Mai or Rock Howard? Blargh. I hope they aren't planning to sell them as DLC later on.

#1 Fighters in gereral are dead to the masses. Do not let SF4 fool you. It's the exception to the rule, not the rule.

#2 2D fighters are really dead. SF4 is a good example of this. There is a huge dislike of non polygon-based games amongst people who visit sites like Gamespot. They basically had to drop sprites, even though the 3D looks nowhere near as good as 1080p animation does (see any HD anime or Pixar on Blu-Ray if you think HD animation looks bad).

#3 It's SNK. SNK games were never as big as Capcom, Sega or Namco. They've made good games, but they are like the Scottie Pippen of the gaming industry: a crucial member, but not the star so everyone ignores them.

So far at least. There's no word officially whether it's only those two (Mature and Elizabeth) added for the console release or if there will be more. The only fact is that official art for K' and Mai in the KOFXII styIe have appeared on the King of Fighters official website.

I love moe character, but Athena doesn't even look human in the game. She look so out of place with that giant puppy eyes. At least keep her within the design with other characters so she doesn't look like fighting robot doll.

King of Fighter, is a bit of an odd one to me, Ive always enjoyied fighting games, but never heard about that series, untill this last version.

It does look very good, and somewhat akin to my most beloved SF2, Im gonna pick it up, that I am fairly sure of ^^

KOF is arguably a rip-off of Street Fighter.

When it came out it was interesting. But it never did anything new and it never evolved.

I'm a little shocked that they're deciding to release this game now on the heels of SF4, Brawl, and now a MVC2 remake.

I am biased, and I didn't enjoy KOF.

Just about every fighting game is a rip off of Street Fighter. What do you expect? Street Fighter...well, actually, it was Street Fighter II, but still, that game alone revolutionized the way fighitng games were meant to be played. Since then, everyone else tried to copy cat with either great success or no success at all. Here's my question though - what is the roster for this game? How many characters will make it into KOF XII? I already have my copy reserved for the XBox 360, so I'm looking forward to this title with much anticipation!

Probably because of the 2D graphics and the fact it is a KoF title. Personally I'm looking forward to KoFXII. I have the feeling KoF12 and BlazBlue will be the best fighters since Virtua Fighter 5 Online.

Well, i love KOF very much, but XII is awful, it's not KOF, it's a mixture of SF, GGXX, and classic KOF(94-97)!! I prefer 98 00 02, i can't stand 01 03. NW is OK. never going to play MI or MI2. The core competitiveness of KOF is the 3v3 system and beauitiful character.

KoF XII is actually 3D. All of it's characters have been hand drawn and they're all 3D. Kind of like SFIV only it looks a hell of a lot better.

I would be more inclined to buy it if there was a better online community. Like with Street Fighter, at least I can beat some of the losers on there, but with King of Fighters games, I just imagine me getting pounded game after game until I call friends over, and then they refuse to play it with me and instead demand to play Soul Calibur or something else lame where they can button mash some flashy moves. I need nerdier friends before that game will be fun.

I didn't realize SF was 3vs3. Going by logic like that Street Fighter is a rip of of Yie Er Kung Fu. I really don't think you even played the series in the first place because KoF 94 is very different compared to 98' or XI.

KoF XII is actually 3D. All of it's characters have been hand drawn and they're all 3D. Kind of like SFIV only it looks a hell of a lot better.

Raikoh_

It's not 3D. It's all sprites. Just the way the sprites have been created involves a 3D process.

According to Kotaku, no K and Mai.

Mature and Elizabeth is only console characters added, and that seems to be final roster.

I hope SNK fails miserably (by their standards) so they can realize what Mai meant to KOF series.

like how SF3 failed miserably (by their standards) and realized what Chun-Li meant to the series.

There was 3 versions of SF3.

Chun-Li wasn't there in first 2. Capcom finally learned their lesson and added Chun-Li for the 3rd version, and it finally saw some light.

The KoF website has 2 new artwork of K and Mai. They have the same kind of art style that the other characters have. It's all but officially announced...

Who cares about Mai ? If you played any of the recent KoF's you will notice that she is bad. Really, if they want to add another female character I hope it's Vanessa.

Just so I know I play 2I more than 3S because I don't have to deal with playing as a nerfed Yang or a really bad Sean. I swear in 2I just about every character who was good was nerfed in 3S and the average or bad characters were made better (Yun and Yang's positions switched as did Ryu and Ken's etc. I could understand nerfing Ibuki but in her spot Chun Li was put in.)

This would be wrong until said otherwise. K' and Mai haven't been officially announced and the ESRB rating suggests that Mai has not been included into the game.

Well then having obviously KOF12 artwork for K' and Mai on the KOF website is pretty freaking stupid of them then, don't you think?

Yes because we all know that everything we see about a game and it's characters on the interweb must mean it's going to be in the game. Kind of like in Army of Two. Remember how you got to put tampons into your wounded buddy? Oh wait, that wasn't in the game...

Yes because we all know that everything we see about a game and it's characters on the interweb must mean it's going to be in the game. Kind of like in Army of Two. Remember how you got to put tampons into your wounded buddy? Oh wait, that wasn't in the game...Raikoh_

Don't be a jerk. I was asking if you thought it was stupid of them, in that case, to have what is obviously KOF12 artwork up for the two characters, considering how in demand they both are. It would be like Capcom having artwork for Cammy and Dan before the release of SF4, obviously done in the SF4 style on the main website for the game and series, then not having them in the game. I'm holding out hope that this isn't the inept cocktease it seems to be, and that they are in the game.

Many fans care about Mai (including me)

If she wasn't any good, they needed to fix her so she will be at same level as other character.

Also Mai's importance isn't just gameplay, but the visuals. She was a fan favorite and you don't omit fan favorite just like that.

As for 2nd impact and 3rd strike, well Capcom always failed with balance, so no surprise there. And thanks to Chun-Li, we managed to see the most famous comeback in fighting games ever.

and 3rd Strike remains my favorite, since Makoto was only character I was able to like in Street Fighter 3.

Miscommunication good sir. I took it as sarcasm. Anywho. I don't care really. I'm happy to see Leona. It just looks like something they did to appease the fans. Kind of like the FFVII tech demo. Everyone wants a remake of the game and the tech demo fueled that fire. Then, when everyone's hopes had been skyrocketing, they shot them down.

I think the main reason is because there's so many other fighters out there and they're all better. It's not that the KOF games suck, but most people prefer Street Figher, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Soulcalibur, Marvel vs. Capcom, Super Smash Bros., Guilty Gear, etc.

Again, the games that you mention are the ones that the public are more aware of, but I think gamers, especially in the US, aren't that interested in Virtua Fighter, I think. There's a lot of patience and dedication required for a series like that and I don't think US gamers have that time for it. But the Japanese, from what I understand, play Virtua Fighter religiously and are considered the best in the world.

Eh, I think that the graphics arn't as great as Street Fighter IV....But it may be good. I think the hype is so low is the fact that it's 2D and not 3D. I don't think SNK has made a good 3D KOF yet.....

I is very happy you included guilty gear on the list. Ive only really played XI and i thought it was great i liked it better than third strike and a lot of other fighters
