UPDATE: After adding Hellgate London to the list below I suddenly thought that the gameplay I've been seeking seems similar to the gameplay of MMORPGs, perhaps due to a sense of progression or repetition. In the past I used to decidedly reject any and all MMO games outright. Could it be prejudice?

*

When talking about Diablo clones, most mention games like Dungeon Siege, Titan Quest and Torchlight. There is also a subgenre that takes several aspects of roguelikes - exploration, looting, leveluping, randomization - and sticks it into genres where combat involves more than clicking on monsters until they die. They also tend to be boring, sh***y, addictive, and rare. If you can recommend more games like this or name the genre you're incredible.

Borderlands

DungeonDoom (Doom 3 mod)

Hellgate: London

Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi

Spelunky (2D platformer)

AlienShooter?

alien shooter: vengance. the coolest blend of borderlands and diablo x-play doesnt hand out 4/5's very often to no-name games so its likely the only review i would give any attention to. the rest in the franchise you can ignore. you can also ignore the zombie shooter franchsie but the latest revision.

its made in a clone of an engine similar to fallout 2. its a beast of a game

I haven't played FarCry 2 yet, but I was under the impression that it makes a random endless world/narrative. If its structure is like that of Grand Theft Auto, then I guess I'd have to exclude it.

It's a huge unscripted world where you activate missions which integrate seamlessly in the world. You could liken it to GTA, I guess, but with more freedom

I don't mean in terms of flexibility in completing missions, nor the scale of the game nor the number of approaches you can take to solve a particular task. If it is an open but predetermined world where you complete several branches of missions, I would liken its structure to GTA. If it has random terrain, or emergently shifting rival territories, or an infinitude of randomly generated quests and unlockable gear, then it's right up this thread's alley.

I don't see why there is mention of roguelike in this thread. None of the listed games so far have anything to do with roguelike games as such games are vastly different.

... Diablo 3? Randomized dungeons and the combat is more evolved than the previous games.

None of those are roguelikes. Do you even know what a roguelike is? Kids these days. Anyways, here's a list of some good roguelikes.

I'm just looking for games from genres with good presentation and gameplay that rewards good reflexes and stuff, but which take game elements found almost uniquely in roguelikes and Diablo clones. Have you played all of the games listed? even Nosferatu and DungeonDoom?

I have played Nosferatu and it's basically just a first person brawler, and not a very good one at that

Yes, the production values are very low and balance is really off. Still, I'd say it's one of very few such games to exhibit roguelike qualities.

Alien Shooter. Zombie Shooter. Alien Breed. These games can really begin to invoke some of that roguelike feel while having completely different gameplay. However the missions are completely linear. If you can expect a couple of playthroughs to unfold almost identically, I don't think it counts, although it comes close. It's too bad because it looks like randomized gear and terrain could be set up very easily in these games.
