To be able to buy a game just on a whim, have a game you know nothing about, neither reviews nor previews nor gameplay videos. And having it actually turn out to be a good game is an extra bonus!

It might not be very common to have such... an experience nowadays, but do you enjoy impulse purchases?

Depends on if the game turns out to be any good or not. I spend to much time on gaming sites for purchases to be impulse now though.

I do it ALL THE TIME! I understand you totally, I love it. I tend to do it online most the time.

I spend way too much time on game sites for me not to know if a game is good or not. I sometimes go on eBay and look for old PS1 and PS2 games though, without any knowledge as to what game I am looking for. I do remember the feeling though. Going into a shop and buying a game based on the box art. Oh how I loved those simple times :P

Uncharted 1, Ratchet and Clank Future : Tools of Destruction, and Mass Effect

were each an impulse buy, way after their initial releases, and each really surprised me.

just because a game scores well doesn't mean it'll be to my liking (case in point Killzone 2).

The last game I remember doing that for was WWE Day of Reckoning for the cube.

I got addicted to that game. :D

Nothing is impulse for me. I know enough about myself as a gamer and my tastes in gaming that everything I buy or choose not to buy is a foregone conclusion before it even hits shelves.

Indeed, usually it's somewhat older games that are cheaper then the newer ones. My copy of Shellshock Nam 67 was one of those and I rather enjoy the game.

I can't really remember the last time I impulsed bought a game I had not examined before online etc. I generally find that I spend little time in game stores now due to just cheaper prices and the wealth of information online, unless of course its a game I know will be good such as a sequel to a great game, but then I would have already read or watched something about that ages before it came out.

Im not the type of person that can really do that. I spend a lot of time on various sites and am always reading reviews. I can't remember the last time I bought a game without knowing edleast something about it.

impulse buying is kind of risky i'd never do it and i'm the kind of person who reads reviews before buying a game.

Technically everything I buy is an impulse purchase since I don't read reviews anymore. I've realized that I'm just as likely to spend my money on a crappy game either way

I never impulse buy nowadays. I did plenty of involuntary impulse buying in the old days, but nowadays demos, gameplay footage and reviews (in that order) are my guide.

I guess I could be considered impulsive, because I'll decide to buy a game sometimes based on a few minutes' worth of time with it even though a bunch of 'pro' reviewers are screaming their lungs out not to. Not that I'm never wrong, I'm just wrong less than the guys doing the reviews these days. In my case and with my tastes anyway.

I may have impluse bought a few of my old Xbox games when I found them in the cheap bin at game stores. But now I check to see if the game is worth buying on Gamespot.

My gaming budget is limited, so I don't buy a game without knowing how it works first.

I did this a whole lot when I was a lot younger and it always ended up being a bad game. The only one's that were good was Zone of Enders and Einhander.

My last good impulse purchase was Freelancer and boy was I happy with it. I didnt hear about that game before and I was expecting it to be a bad-mediocre space sim but it turned out to be a hidden gem. Don't find games like that anymore.

My last impulse buy like that was Dead Space. So yes, I really enjoyed that particular impulsive action on my behalf.

Its bitten me on the arse before though, I bought Alone in the Dark on PC (thank god it was cheap) and its goddamn unplayable with audio problems ala no sound AT ALL, really bad camera control (which admittedly I could probably get used to) and NO GODDAMN SUPPORT for it. So its just sitting in a box until the PC version gets some love. Which more than likely won't happen.

No, because most games that are released are pretty bad. They seduce you with their pretty box art and then---lo and behold!---the game blows.

I wait on reviews for everything, unless I absolutely know they're going to be amazing. Like Mass Effect 2.

I impulse buy (to an extent,) games at sales. Your expectations are a lot lower when the game is $20.
