I was sitting here reading a magazine and listening to some gaming podcasts, and it got me to wondering why it is that different people game? Or, more, what is it that you want from a game?

Do you want have fun? Do you want to be challenged? Is it all about the high score? Do you like the stories? The music? Are you more for the arcade games, or more for the deep experiences with loads of cinematics and characters and dialogue? When you look at a new game, what is it you're looking for? What turns you off to a game, and what makes you want it? Why do you play?

Myself, I'm not an arcade player at all. I used to be, when I was a kid, but once I got into games on my PC that actually had stories and worlds to explore, it was all over for me. I could find little joy in coin-ops. Now I can enjoy them again to a degree, but never for long periods. My meat and potatoes gaming is stuff likeMORTAL KOMBATand Resident Evil and Halo. I want some challenge, but once my frustration level exceeds my enjoyment level, I'll bail out or cheat my way to the end. I play purely to have fun and experience something through my TV that I'll never experience in real life. If I'm not having fun, and if I'm not engrossed, then I won't bother i play a bit of everything so i learn to get better and better at each type of game i play.

I play for many different reasons for fun, for challenge, for something to do, and for escapism from my life.

For me, it depends on my mood and the game. A lot of times I look for challenge, such as in games like Mario, but other times I just want to escape and get sucked in by a story, like when I play RPGs. If and RPG is too hard or an arcadey game is too easy, I get bored fast. I love all games for whatever they offer most of the time, and really just love the experience. Of course, some games are always enhanced by those theatrical elements, things that put Shadow of the Colossus and Metroid Prime on the top of my list of favorites.

I play just to kick back, relax, and have some fun. I like pretty arcadey type games, and don't need an intense story. Cinematics usually just get in the way for me, unless their really well done, and don't take up too much time. I don't like things too difficult. I don't have lots of time to play games, so I don't want to spend the little time I do have just trying to get by 1 stupid level. Refering to the topic, I'll still play old games: 5, 10, 15, 25 year old games. Gameplay is most important to me, and although some games lose their lustre with age, some will always be fun!

For me, it's all about fun and entertainment. I enjoy free roaming environment games where I don't have to follow a particular path and can do whatever I feel like (such as Oblivion and WoW). That way I don't have to do anything in a particular order and just do as according to my mood. I also enjoy racing games because they're just plain fun.

For me personally-- I play just about anything. I grew up around video games when I was a kid, and I probably play for a variety of reasons, a challenge, a great story, and interesting characters. One thing I always hold close to my heart about gaming is the variety-- the scope of the battlefield you could say. You could pop in a game and blast away in a futuristic arcade title like Galaga, take a trip to Mushroom Kingdom, or blast away the convenant in Halo 2 , or perhaps if that's not your taste, why not engross yourself in the madness of Burnout.

It's all great too me. Different worlds. All sorts of characters. Thats what makes me want to play a game.

I personal like any kind of games. I like videogames because they bring you into a total diferent world they let you be what you never could be in real lifethey let you be the hero that goes around with a gun and shoot's all the villans with a gun or you have a fast car and expensive tuned up car of which you only dream in real life. For me a game needs to be fun but it should be a challenge too. At least that's what i think.

My personal favorite games are NFS Most Wanted because Carbon is too easy and short an F.E.A.R, Condemned and many others.
