There are more than a few "old" games that garner a great deal of acclaim. But sometimes I find myself playing games for their acclaim, ... that really don't do it for me. Even when they are clearly quality titles.

What games are like that for you? Are they "bad" or do they just not resonate with you?

Personally, I started playing Lunar just recently. I loved Grandia, but for some reason the game feels like a chore to play. I felt similarly about Eternal Arcadia for the Dreamcast, which is unfortunate because I'm always looking for quality JRPGs for my Sega systems (although I'm thinking of ridding myself of the Dreamcast).

The original Zelda. I see how revolutionary it is, but it's just too minimalistic in every way from the art to the fairly bland looking overworld (NES games tend to have that bland look due to the limited colors) to the simplistic dungeons. Link to the Past is when the series really comes into its own (although I find the dungeon's to still be a bit simplistic; however, the fantastic overworld makes up for it).

I felt that way for the original Final Fantasy. I got the combination 1&2 and was very excited. (I really liked FF7,10, and 12. I LOVED FF8.) I poped it in and after ten minuets I had had enough. I tried playing it multiple times. But I just didn`t feel it. Story has a HUGE part in me enjoying a game. I think that is what I was missing.

you mean playing a game because of its fame regardless if its good or not?

Street Fighter Alpha 3 on the Dreamcast and PS1, SFA3 is my favourite 2D fighter......on the Saturn , the DC and PS1 versions are worse but I still play them occasionally.

I mean games you thought you would be interested in playing, but really didn't end up liking them. Mainly because of what other people think of them. The game may be good or may not be good.

I don't think Eternal Arcadia is a bad game, it just doesn't really do much for me. Maybe it's a bit too basic of an RPG for my tastes, but then again I really like Grandia. Suikoden II is a very highly rated game, but honestly I found it mediocre to weak.

kind of what happend with SFA3 Dreamcast. read the GS review and they basically say its a perfect conversion. yeah right, its not, the Saturn version is better in almost every way, and I can prove it. the PS1 version has its own issues , but at least they never claim its perfect.

Oh yeah, I recently played the Wii remake of Klanoa because some people were calling the original a classic. I got maybe two worlds in before I returned it. It's such a boring platformer with boring mechanics and boring level design. I even found the art to be kind of bland. For the life of me I cannot understand why people praise the game. There's so many infintely superior platformers from that era.

Pretty much any "revolutionary" FPS before Goldeneye. I'm not a fan of FPS games but Goldeneye was something else back then. Haven't liked another FPS since.

RTS games like C&C as well.

The Gran Turismo games... I can see why people like them but they just aren't for me.

definitely indigo prophecy, i bought because many talked about. Game, as some ppl said, is interesting in the first half, then plot takes a sudden and devious turn making to me impossible to continue play, then i sold it without complains well i traded it with contra S.S.

I wasn't impressed by Super Mario World. It's really a step down from SMB3 in every aspect, especially the level design. I like SMB1 and 3 a lot more.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's good, but just... overrated.

Go ahead and flame me, fanboys, I don't fear you!:P
