I agree completely with you. An old-school RE6 would be pretty amazing and will make us piss in our pants with the huge power of the new machines, but I´m not sure about what direction is going to take the series.
The best thing we can do is expect nothing. If they make another action title we don´t blame for that, and if they put out a masterpiece... Wow an unexpected surprise!
I don't know. They probably won't.
But they should do something like that for the PSP. The PSP seems like a great platform for something like that. But not a port or a enhanced version, but I'm talking about a original Resident Evil game like Silent Hill Origins. Why don't they collaborate with western developers like Ready At Dawn or the guys who did Silent Hill Origins? They can do it and it would sell pretty well.
And than they can port it to the Wii or the PS2 afterwards!:P
Asking for RE to go back to fixed cameras and prerendered backgrounds is like asking for the Batman movies to go back to Arnold Swartzenegger and Schumacher. The fixed, cinematic cameras of the old RE games were horrendous.

You suck.
It would be awesome, but it won't happen because morons like this guy love their new dumber RE games.
Hey no need for insults we're talking about videogames after all. I wouldn't say what you said carnage, just because you weren't ther when they first came out doesn't mean the games sucked. Using rendered background is the reason older RE games had a "static" camera which was backthen, something new. Backthen, the space of the compact disc didn't allow developers to design levels like the ones in older RE games and then free rotating camera wasn't neccesary. The camera in the older games did the required job. If it weren't for those games that "sucked" in the eyes of many who were introduced to the series by RE4, you wouldn't care to play RE4 today. I bet if they make older RE games in today's consoles they'd own. At least there would be something else to do other than shooting.

I played the RE games when they first play out and I played Alone in the Dark, the game RE ripped off, when it first game out.
Howcome you're saying "sucked" did you see the reviews? Want me to scan some reviews for you? I still have the mags btw. No one mentioned sucked in them. gamingqueen
Its impressive that you hold onto old magazines for that long, but besides the point. The prerendered backgrounds and fixed cameras of RE weren't criticized early on because they were reasonable design decisions (though the camera, which favored 'cinematic' over 'useful' could have been better) given the limits of technology and programmers' knowledge.
But as technology improved, the camera became indefensible. It made no sense that RE CV was fully polygonal, but still featured fixed cameras which blinded players to what was within plain view of the character.
I like both and have played pretty much ever Resi since the series first started, but I think going back to fixed camera and tank controls would perhaps be a step back, but hey I would give it a try anyway :PAzelKosMosWhat's this 'going back to' talk people give whenever they talk about the movement controls in RE?
The tank controls are almost identical in RE4. The only difference is that the camera was no longer fixed to the environment, but was based on where the character was looking. Everything else about how you controls outside of the degree of control you had while aiming is actually the same as before.
The main problem with the older RE games was less control related, and more camera/perspective related, which is what RE4 addressed. If I wanted to return to a more traditional RE game, I'd have them retain the camera work of RE4, while simply inserting in more of the traditional adventure genre elements back into the game.
I'm of the camp/mindset that misses the traditional RE games...but not enough to the point where I prefer fixed camera angles/pre-rendered backgrounds to having a more natural/organic approach to the camera, like RE4 had.
On top of that, you've seen how gorgeous the environments were in REmake and 0; imagine how it would be like using the power of the PS3 and 360. Madness! The quality of the backgrounds in REMake and RE0 had more to do with the software the devs were using to build the 3D environments, and less to do with the power of the game console's hardware. Pre-rendering takes away from having the console do the work, making the console less of a factor when it comes to the graphcial quality of something, hence why pre-rendered backgrounds were used as much as they were in the PS1 era.

Now, real time rendered environments are more preferred for various reason, including more freedom to both the player and developer for camera/perspective options and such, among other things.
We're at a point where pre-rendered simply is becoming more and more archaic in nature, IMHO.

The camera is what made the controls feel so tank like which is what I meant, perhaps I should have worded that better. But in the end I agree with Carnage and Skylock, having fixed camera angles in this day and age just seems wrong, especially for a game like RE, but with RE4 controls/angles in more traditional gameplay would be fine, but I am not desperate for it either as the action gameplay in RE4 just reinvented the series and gave me a rush the entire time through.
....
I just like both
That would be awesome!
The old resident evil styles were alot better, IMO.
The games in general stood supreme. It was actually a survival game back then and you would have to search to stay alive. Resident evil 4 was more about hitting the right shot with high powered guns.
I was never big on resident evil games when they first came out but when i got resident evil 1 remake for the game cube 4 years ago, i feel in love. there scary, tactical, fun. Remake resident evil was the bomb! i've played them all now and i gotta say the old school camra angles and ammo tatics is alot funner then now stop enemys and button pressing cinematics. and its not they stuck with set camras. in RE 0 and code veronica (which it my second favorite next to RE1 remake) the camras do move around a bit, more like a survalince camra. i think if you had the option to see first player veiw like in zelda or something that be cool. what would even be better though, they remake 1-3, same ammom and same enemys, but if it the RE4 3rd player camra. that be amazing, running around the old mansion looking at everything. but as for whats avalible now with resident evil 0-3 and code veronica were the best and 4 is like a completly diffrent genra which doesn't deserve the title survivail horror.

Resident Evil 4 changed the RE Franchise forever . if you want the old RE style gameplay then play the old games . RE needed to change
