Hi, im thinking of getting a PSP or a DS to pick up some retro RPGS orcurrent good ones. I don't want any 3d RPGS i am looking for old style like ff3 or breath of fire 3, chrono trigger, lufia 2.

I want something 2d or cartoony that is really good. Which system would be better?

Also I read that jailbreaking a PSP is legal therfore it is legal to talk about in this thread, can you still jailbreak a PSP if you have an old model and maybe install old snes games on it?

I am also trying to remember what 2d side scrolling rpg came out for PSP around its launch, it looked pretty cool i think it was valkyrie profile? am i right?

Etrian Odyssey Jailbreak may be considered legal (still debatable, therefore not really allowed to talk about in any GS boards), but installing an old SNES games certainly isn't.

I have both handhelds. If you want more retro RPG's, then go with the DS. You can play Fire Emblem, Chrono Trigger, Suikoden, and Final Fantasy III and IV. The Zelda games are also good, as well as Dragon Quest. However, more of the old-school RPG's were available for the GameBoy Advanced. Unless you're willing to pay big $$$ or buy them used, I would start with the DS.

The PSP has Final Fantasy I and II, and Persona 1 and 2. Valkyire Profile: Lenneth is amazing as well.

The PSP is way better RPG wise. You'll enjoy Cladun, FF7: CC, Kingdom Hearts, etc. You can even buy old PS1 RPGs from the PSN store :D

are visuals the only thing that you are going by, or do you mean any particular genre because there are many rpgs with 3d visuals that play like older games. are you looking for turnbased, strategy, action?
