Giantbomb.com for more details. Could this mean that Tekken 7 will also be a PS console exclusive along with SFV and KOF14? If so...what does this mean for the competition? Please discuss.

From where I'm sitting, it looks like the Japanese is strongly supporting/backing the PlayStation brand but so are western developers via exclusive content.

Reveal video:

Loading Video...

Given what is already public information about Tekken X Street Fighter, it seems like a test for it which might be a fun experience without microtransactions like Capcom's Street Fighter X Tekken.

Akuma's character model is high quality and his ex abilities should influence Tekken gameplay enough to vary matches in a way that offers players new ways to learn about 3D fighting games' gameplay styles.

@louixiii: Japanese fighting game developers has pretty much allways supported the Playstation and Namco has allways had closest ties with Sony, when that is said though, i have heard that Tekken 7 will be released on all platforms including Xbox360, Playstation 3 and PC which is a suprising yet good move by Namco to expand the tekken community.

This is basically the Monday Night Wars when Hall & Nash went over to WCW.

Awesome video. I totally geeked out seeing the Akuma video. Anyway I thought that it was already announced for both PS4 and Xbox One.

I would love for Tekken 7 to make its way to PC...haven't gotten my hands in a Tekken game since the first 3 in the arcades and it's still my favourite fighting game series. Also interested to see how Akuma changes the mechanics.

Where did you hear that it was coming to last gen consoles? I think that'll be a great idea, but everyone I know is telling me it's current gen only and possibly a PS4 exclusive. And that's very true. Namco and Sony has been really tight over the years. I think the wise thing to do is to make the game for current and last gen consoles (Wii U included), but I have a feeling that it's just going to be on current gen and possibly PS4 exclusive. I guess time will tell the tale. I just hope we get a release date soon.

More than likely it's coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC, but it's only been announced for PS4.

If i remember correctly i heard it here a while back in the news section on front page here on Gamespot.I think it was a twitter message from Harada himself that Gamespot picked up or it might have been an announcement on a gameshow earlyer, i could be wrong though. It all depends on what kind of deals Namco has with Sony Computer Entertainement ;) Im pretty sure that Tekken 7 is definetly gonna be released on Xboxone because i heard the other day that the VR part will only be avalible on the PS4 with PSVR.

It would be a good move for Namco to release on every platform possible this time around because the sales figures has been going downhill ever since after Tekken 3.

Edit: Kazuya will destroy Akuma btw ;) Very cool that they put him in the game though :)

Can't wait for Tekken 7

I hear you. I'm more worried about how they're going to balance him out. He seems way more powerful than everyone else. But I am thankful that they didn't dumb him down. That would've been disappointing.

I can't imagine playing Tekken VR lol Having to use those move controllers might kill the experience for me. And if Namco's sales figures are that bad, I agree...but I have a feeling that Sony has something slick up their sleeves. Like they're going to pay for either time exclusive rights or full exclusive rights. At least that's what my gut is telling me.

@louixiii: Yep, his ranged game might be a new source of annoyance in a game where previously everything happened at melee distance (and for most characters it still will, unless that has changed in the last iterations of Tekken; as I said, it's been a while since I've played it).

@louixiii: I would never play Tekken in VR either, that's not even Tekken anymore :P I think the VR part will be something like that your unlocking endings and that you can stand face to face with the characters and maybe interact with them in some ways in VR or something like that. You could play tekken in 1st person in Tekken 3 or Tekken 4, (can't remember which one) and that was just stupid tbh lol

Unless I am mistaken, since Tekken 2 with the characters, Angel and Devil, one or two characters have distance attacks. Tekken 6 introduced weapons, including firearms, into the normal gameplay, so players could shoot at opponents among other actions for a small amount of damage.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has Ogre, Devil and Angel, and Devil Jin who all have unblockable distance attacks as well as everyone having the ability to equip distance weapons. For better or worse, equipped weapons do not change gameplay much as they are slow and light attacks.

I played all the Tekken games except for the original, so I am unaware of much of it.

What @branketra said is true. They did introduce distance attacks for everyone, but for most characters it takes a little time to pull off. Most of which are weak but some boss projectiles can be devastating.

You read my mind. I don't think that Tekken is going to make use of VR at all, but I could be wrong. If so, that would be a cool way to do so. And I vaguely remember that mode but like you said, it was stupid. Once VR tech is on the level of The Matrix or Caprica or Sword Art, that type of mode in a fighter will be fun...I hope lol

Boss projectiles can be pretty damaging (Azazel comes to mind), but you're pretty spot on.

And you have to play the game that started it all. Trust me...it's worth it.

@louixiii: My comments about projectile damage were only about weapons, rather than the character-specific projectiles.

I might play it at some point.

There is also a female android called Alisa Bosconovitch which might be a famliar name if you knew about secret characters from Tekken 3. She can fly and shoot her arm like a rocket then another is formed in its place.

@BranKetra: I know. And it would be a good idea if you have the time. The AI was a lot tougher in the original than some sequels but the physics is hilarious. Overall it was a great game.

@louixiii: Okay.

Namco made high quality video games before merging with Bandai and I like many classic games, so it could be fun.

They really did. Since you're into classic fighters, here's a list of a few classic fighters (many of which I'm sure you've played). Tobal #1, Bushido Blade, World Heroes, SF:Alpha 3, Art of Fighting, Rival Schools, Power Stone, Power Instinct, Soul Edge and of course Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Or tournys lol that's if you're into that type of thing. I used to hold a few at the house years back among friends. Matter of fact, when SFV drops I'm going to train for Evo 2017. I just need to find others that are serious aside from myself and my little brother (who's a monster).
