I'd have to go with Max Payne intro..

I know how you feel a good intro can really feel impressive if done right, the last game that impressed me withan intro would be Lost Odyssey.

Final Fantasy IV remake on DS

Final fantasy VI for me probably has the best intro. The music added with the scene of the three mechs walking through the snow equals one epic opening.

It was ok. Metal Gear Solid is probably better.

Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VIII, Metroid Prime, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, Sonic CD, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and most recently Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner.

It took the developers more than a year to engineer the opening cinematic for The Witcher: good motion-capture, authentic swordplay, great use of CG.

Either Conflict Freespace, or syndicate wars... I still get giddy when I see the latter of the two, I ended up DMing an RPG for 9 years, drawn from that single intro ^^

Ace Combat: The Belkan War, Underrated game with a great story. The music playing during the intro is just amazing.

For me, I'd have to give it to Soul Blade on PS1 and Final Fantasy VIII. Both intros were just outstanding.

I would say Lost oddyssey, Resident Evil PSX, Resident evil 2, The witcherand final fantasy viii are the main ones that come to mind but I'm sure there are various others I can't think of right now.
