Premise: I'm not a big MMO player, I played a few minor (free) ones in the past but never got in the WoW or Everquest thing. Maybe that's the reason I get so pissed at what this topic refers to:

I was playing a pretty unknown game called Shadowflare and I liked it, it's a good Diablo-like game and played it for a few hours, collecting about 18000 gold in the process (kept in two 10000 bags, each one considered as an inventory item).

The game is pretty easy at first so I hardly died from the beginning to a certain point where it got impossible for my current level: I found a room filled with monsters that ripped me apart. I respawn at the town and find out I lost the biggest bag with the hard earned money
"Damn" I say, and I warp back to the room where I died to get it back. The bag was nowhere to be found. Gone. 10000 gold.

Now, I know it's normal in most MMORPGS to receive an item loss penalty when you die, so that's not the problem. The problem is how it makes you feel what that happens. I mean, games are supposed to be fun and rewarding, not frustrate you by stealing your goods!

Guess I'm not in the right MMO spirit huh? If you want, tell us your MMORPG sad stories.

I stay away from them, in fear of losing my social life, which is already small enough.

in the MMOs that i've played, you dont lose anything, except experience or equipment durability.

Only MMO ive consistently played was WoW and I have not had a single bad experience.

Sure, things have gone wrong, but Bliz is really good and has awesome customer support. Unlike most MMOs, they earn that 13 bucks a month imo.

I don't think you should blame the MMO genre for that, there aren't many MMO's where you actually loose your items or money. Even loosing experience is nowadays rare.

Just like probably many of you, I played my fair share of RuneScape back in the day and the best part about it was the wilderness where you could loose all of your items except for the three best. It's exciting to try how deep into the wilderness you are ready to venture.

Heh... Thats the reason why most MMOs don't do that anymore.

You are probably better off playing some other MMO thats not a Korean MMO grindfest.

I'd like to try an MMO that is more action-oriented. The kind that you could compare to the likes of DMC.
