Hi all,

This is just a curiosity question: Do you have to pay for an annual membership to game online via a PC?

Only because with an xBox one, you need a gold membership (or whatever it's called) and I'm sure PlayStation has a similar setup. I just wondered if GTA online on a PC is free?

@freeman3030:

Simple answer, is 'no'.

Long answer, 'depends on the game'.

Games on P.C. are usually free to play online, though many on here will give you the false impression it's for every game. However that's a lie!

Some games, (usually MMOs) require a subscription, and you pay for that game alone. You'll also come across some games that'll constantly throw ads at you to buy microtrasactions, and the longer you go without buying anything, the more notification ads you'll receive, to the point the game becomes unplayable. Think mobile F2P business model and you have a good idea.

But if you can put up with all that on only a small selection of P.C. titles? You're set.

Either way if you play a multiplatform game that so happens to also be on P.C.? It'll likely be free to play online.

Hope that helps and happy gaming_

Thank you for the great response! I'm certainly selling that Xbox and upgrading to a gaming PC!

The title of your question perplexed me. I was thinking I was going to be joining a debate about online games and how they have been ruining the gaming industry by taking away focus from the story. I thought about buying a gaming PC in the past. I played Eve: Online for awhile and I loved that game! Decided not to continue and went back to my consoles. I have always been a console jockey. It is what it is.

This was one thing that actually turns me off with consoles, you have to pay for their Online services. Don't get me wrong, they should couple said subscriptions with like... Free shit or something. Cause it feel absurd to PAY for the Internet and a Online Subscription.

We get free things...sometimes. Sometimes it is a weapon skin no one really wants or...OR a hat which makes the character look like a dumbass! My gosh, I love pre-ordering games for the crappy items that come with them. I haven't bought a special edition for awhile because it is always a joke once it is released. The last time I made this mistake was with Star Wars Battlefront. I bought the 'Special Edition' which did not offer me much of anything. I got access to some stuff first which was quickly unlocked by other players within less than a week.
