Remember how dating was before we had online chats and the internet? I sort of do. But since we are talking about gaming its no surprise to see people getting to know eachother better and "shacking up" and getting hitched after meeting in a video game. For some reason, more and more people seem to be loving the idea of internet love only because you get to know the person's character before looks and i guess everyone has a fighting chance once they are smitten with your personality.

I am posting this because i have been thinking about my situation. I met my boyfriend of almost 2 years on Socom 2, i also began to play with his cousin and friend on Socom 1 and a friendship developed. Myspace made the connection closer and we have been dating for almost 2 years and living together for 1 and a half. I couldd't be happier, and all because of a game that i used to play 72 hours straight during spring break.

I just wonder if anyone here has found love through a video game or know someone who has, or had an experiencelike that even if itdidnt work out.

Couple of my friends found dates through WoW, one of them a true knock-out. Made me wish I weren't married. Didn't work out for them, but I suppose it could happen. Sadly, I met my wife the old-fashioned way.

Ha ha, personally I think I'd rather meet whomever I marry someday the old fashioned way. Of course, God has in store for us whatever's best, and if that's online dating, then so be it.

A good friend of mine is marrying a girl from Singapore that he met in WoW... she is a pretty cool cat.  I don't know, for me the whole online dating scene is kind of a mess.  I signed up to eHarmony a while back, and it is just wierd for me.  I prefer to meet real people I guess.  Maybe it is different if you meet someone in a game though.

To me, it depends on how it took place. Let me tell my story:

I was in between studies at college, having dropped out of my first cause I didnt like it. So I had a few months to kill. Bought WoW to kill some time (killed time for 2 years with that :P ). Anyway, the first person I partied with was a (presumably) girl from Holland (I'm Danish). Of course, you hear the horror stories, so I just took it as a helping hand and it was fun to group. We chatted a bit, you know, the usual random stuff you do while killing youe 205th boar. We played together two days in a row, then I rolled a different character, so did she, and we didnt get the names of our new chars, and lost contact.

A month later, she logs on her old one, I write her, and we get the old group together again. Since we both didnt really have anything else to do than play, we started playing a lot, always together. When you play a MMORPG together that much, you get to know each other very well. The kicker was, that she was engaged, so there was no romantic intentions at all at any point. In any case, after 6 months I popped by Holland to visit her, we were really close friends by then. We fell in love (AFTER spending 2 weeks together), she broke off her engagement, after doing long-distance for a year, she moved here. We've lived together for a year now, I can honestly say she's my best friend, and few know me as well as her. We're planning on marriage next year.

None of us play WoW anymore.

If you do play a MMORPG to find a date, then I think you got the wrong mindset to begin with, and you've got a lot bigger chance to get burned. But I do think very strong friendships can be built, since you already share a very time-consuming hobby. And if a very close friendship turns into a relationship, I see nothing wrong there.

Sorry for the long post.

I see nothing at all wrong with accidently ending up with a relationship through video games or the internet. I dont think you should go out and buy an MMO just because you want to pick up members of the opposite sex... Instead, play to make friends, and hopefully, being friends will enrich one's life.

I've tapped that well (FFXI). It didn't work out, but that had more to do with situation and personality than the means by which I met her (read: she was really chaotic). I wouldn't let that experience deter me if I were faced with the same prospect in the future.
