I have a ps4 here. What games do you feel like have been worth the time you sink into them? I play mostly open world big budget games because they seem to have the most going for them. Some are more worth it than others though.

Worth it

GTA V

The Witcher 3

Batman Arkham Knight minus the batmobile

Not worth it

Just Cause 3

AC Syndicate. Better than Unity though

Fallout 4 depends on preference if you really like fallout but i found it more of the same

Shadow of Mordor Overhyped

MGS not a fan of MGS

Waiting on Uncharted 4, Mafia 3 and The new Mass Effect and Cyberpunk and games like that. I don't see a whole lot. Seems like so much more could still be done with this genre. There are some games like the witness and firewatch that are more puzzle games coming but eh. I like the adventure genre but not like that. LA Noire and Sleeping dogs had the right premise last gen I thought. Saints Row not so much.

Uncharted 4 isn't gonna be open-world. There's No Man's Sky, which is pretty much open-galaxy. There's also Horizon: Zero Dawn, which involves prehistoric-like people fighting robot dinosaurs. Looks absurdly awesome in my opinion.

I didn't see Mad Max mentioned. Although I haven't played the game myself you might enjoy it as it has the Arkham combat mechanics and an open world.
As for MGS if you like stealth sandbox, it's totally worth it. I jumped into it without ever playing as Metal Gear and enjoyed the hell out of it.

There is also Tom Clancy's The Division and Ghost Recon Wildlands (I think it is open world) and far cry primal (Not at all excited about it, seems boring).

I'm mainly just playing the witcher and gta every so often for a change of pace. Also have Batman and AC Syndicate. Not bad but this genre could be so much better imo. The witcher is thoroughly engrossing.

Open world games need to make the worlds smaller but more interesting, instead of bloated and bigger. I'm tired of doing checklists in them.

I think they need better universes in general. AC, GTA, Mass Effect all pretty cool but they could do better imo. It's like these franchises have the money to develop these worlds but so much cooler stuff could be done.. The witcher and bethesda games are pretty standard fair fantasy. GTA is over the top fun. AC is kind of cool. Same with Mass Effect but they could do better imo as far as storylines and universes for more mature audiences.

Mad Max and Far Cry 4 are good games. At least on PC anyway. Watch Dogs gets shit on a lot, but I actually enjoyed it too.

Open world games are the best genre, if you can call it that, for me. I think we got some big ones last year. I consider the Witcher 3, MGSV and Fallout 4 all to be masterpieces. And they were all completely different from each other. I am so super hyped for No Man's Sky but that game is a total question mark right now. I'm really hoping for the best. I'm also really hyped for Cyberpunk 2077. Sci-fi + open world is my kind of thing for sure! Last gen had Red Dead Redemption and GTAV. Two super classics! I think most games are going to go the open world route so I'm excited for the future.

Pretty much just Witcher 3, Dragon Age Inquisition and AC games (minus Black Flag & Revelations).
