anyone think this would be interesting? and im not talking about dead rising, im talking about like a whole new game, i havent really thought of it much but i thought this idea would be really good. and not just like zombies but like ghosts and poltergeists and actually make the game scary rather than action orriented

It could work but only if you are the antagonist. Or they could make a supernatural type game.

Kind of like Stalker (except that game is pretty actiony, but still), it's probably the scariest game I've ever played.

Requiem: Memento Mori is probably the only thing coming somewhat close.

That's actually a cool thought. Be the antagonist in a open world horror game.

Isn't that what Alan Wake was originally supposed to be? An open world psychological thriller/horror? Supposedly Remedy changed direction of the game's design because it was too difficult to build suspense in an open world game.

Deadly Premonition! Well, it's one of the closest games, at least.

A Dead Space open world type game would be awesome. You would have the entire ship to explore along with some "safe zones".

It would be difficult. In horror games, the linear plot helps the player, because the developer crafts the story along a single line. Therefore, there are periods of intensity, and then there are breaks from that to give the player a breather before the game ramps back up. To try to do something similar in an open-world game would be extremely difficult. Not impossible, just difficult.

well in my head it would work like GTA or red dead redemption. such as that it would have a story line but there would be side missions of local people that needs help or are in simillar situations as you are. what if theres also elements of eternal darkness where you would have an insanity meter that would go up from things scaring you or chasing you and stuff like that. i dont know in my head this would be so cool. but i would rather keep it as you playing as a protagonist as if you play as an antagonist i can see it being like a "destroy anything you want" type of deal where you have demonic powers or what not and just kill everything in sight.

It would be hard to make I guess, but it should be possible, and it would make for some great setpieces

Such as abandoned old manion in the forrest, old run down hospital or asylum in a small town, and a prison... smaller quieky town, where alot of things are going on below the surface.

It can indeed be done, but Ive rarely seen an open world game that does not focus on action... Must take alot of time to build up structures, and reas, and make sure the base level design and ambiant sounds are scary even before work on story and monsters...

I would love such a game, also the ability to pick and chose to go or not go certain places, instread of being led/forced thorugh.
