If you are a game collector do you tend to only buy the original versions of games than the Platinum versions? Like what I'm trying to say is do you think the original versions have more collectors value than the platinum versions or maybe you don't care really as long as you've got the game.

If I was in a games store and saw the same game in the original version and Platinum version, I'd buy the original. What about you guys?

I always opt for the original. They usually have higher value among collectors and are usually more rare as a result. Similar to how owning a reprint copy of a comic book is held to a lesser standard than owning the original.

I'm assuming by "Platinum" you mean greatest hits editions of games. I buy the original if I have a choice between the two but it's not a huge deal to me.

I thought this thead was comparing Pokemon Platinum to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.... Agh it would probably be in the DS forum anyway.

*facepalm at myself*

Anyway, I prefer buying original games, even though I accidently voted for "Platinum."

i dont really care because the gta series are the only games that i see a difference in original or platnum because look at vice city and san andreas, they took out the hot coffee mod from the original and in vc they open up the island after the mansion in the platnum and in the original its before

I only buy the Platinum version of a game if the original is very hard to find. The Platinum covers are usually ugly.

I think the real extent of "Original" versus "Platinum/Greatest Hits" is when the game in question is a sealed/unopened copy.

Once a game is opened, it loses collectible value, at least in most cases. This helps the average game player afford copies of them.

The best example of a legacy platform when comparing prices for sealed compared to complete would be NES and SNES games. Some games tend to go for about $100.00 higher for a sealed version on NES when compared to an open "mint" complete copy of the same game. I remember games like Resident Evil 2/3 on GameCube, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on various platforms going for MUCH higher end-auction prices on ebay when they were sealed copies.

If I have the choice then the original, but it doesn't really matter.

I prefer having the original, but it doesn't matter, since I rarely have the money to buy a game on release day.

The original versions have greater value, although the platinum versions are more updated and have old bugs/glitches patched if there were any previously.

I'd rather have the original but it's not such a huge deal that i'd be willing to spend more than 10$ on the original over the "greatest hits" version.

Honestly, I usually prefer the Platinum versions. A lot of times they have more content and patched content. I consider myself a collector, but only in the sense of getting the game so that I can play it. I have 172 games for Xbox, and I intend to eventually play them all. I don't collect for them to just sit on the shelf. About twenty of them are still sealed, but that's just because I haven't gotten to them yet.

You need Kingdom Under Fire: Crusades/ Heroes in your collection (assuming your list is updated). Get it before it becomes hard to find.

If you are truly a collector, you have to buy the original still sealed and keep it, then buy the next cheapest verion to play.

Err.. I don't care which copy. I never knew there was that significant of a difference - I always thought 'Platinum' was just a label they slap on if a game does well :? But if I had to choose, probably the Platinum given that it's more recent and updated.

What do you mean before they are hard to find? I haven't been able to find copies of them for the past four/five years! I've wanted them since I saw a friend playing the first one about five years ago, lol.

But, I do appreciate the recommendation. :)

I really don't care. So long as I have the complete game a little banner doesn't bother me. I've never understood what's so offensive about a little red or green banner.

I like 'em. I recently just went to the local pawn shop to get rid of 4 of my Platinum Hits only to buy the originals used. I'm crazy like that.

Unless its a sealed or unopened copy Im buying I dont really care. Generally though Ill like platinum if its a used game just because you know that disc is younger and has the chance of not being used nearly as much.

I never buy platinum or greatest hits. I would rather the original form the game came in. I only have two games in my collection that are not the original and that's because I got them free with another purchase.

Platinum definitely with PC games....it will include the original and all the expansion packs for a cheap price, sometimes on 1 DVD.

If it's a choice I'll go for the original. The disc can give a game its own identity and when there's just a standard "Special Platinum Edition" disc, it kinda ruins the moment when you open the box all excited because you've finally managed to get your hands on a great game.

It doesn't bother me that much though... I'm not gonna go out and replace all my platinum discs with originals and i don't play any game more or less because of whether they're a platinum edition or not.

Don't judge a book by it's cover :P I personally don't care what case the game comes in as long as the game is the same when I open the case, saying that I choose the original. The only platinum case I had last gen was for GT3, and my love affair with GT began :D

Platinum Edition games have the same disc image except for the top border. Where it used to say Xbox, it now says Xbox Platinum or something of the sort. It doesn't really change the overall animation.

If it's an old game that I'm buying second hand, I don't mind buying a platinum version as the disc will be newer and is less likely to have problems like warping (so the disc isn't perfectly flat). Old CDs can have this problem, though it's much less common with DVDs.

I'll pay a little more for the original version is necessary. I'll only fork over a substantial amount of extra money if I REALLY want it lol.
