I'm really starting to rebuild my snes game collection and I was wondering if anyone had a game they especially liked that may have been underrated. My favorite kinds of snes games are the ones with different kinds of monsters, ghosts, and stuff like that. If anyone has any games like Act Raiser, Castlevania, or demon's crest please share them. Any other overlooked gems are welcome as well. THanks!

Not a game with monsters and ghosts but Sunset Riders is worth a look, it's a side scrolling shooter set in the wild west that first appeared on the arcade, the snes port is really good and to my knowledge aside from a slight graphical downgrade it retains all the elements from the arcade version.

A few that I really enjoyed:

Perhaps not the best games but Dragon's Lair and Space Ace on the SNES were completely unique from their arcade versions.

Doom & Wolfenstein 3D - while not exact ports from the PC were the versions I played first.

Gradius III (while not the most overlooked is one of my favorite shooters on SNES.

Knights of the Round - Basically Final Fight set in King Arthur's world - and you actually play as Arthur, Lancelot and a 3rd character Percival. - as you play, armor and weapon are improved.

Mechwarrior 3050 - a unique overhead version of the PC game. Rock & Roll Racing - racing + combat + licensed rock music made this game memorable.

Super Pinball: Behind the Mask is one of my favorite pinball games - this one was unique for the time period as the table view was full 3D.

Top Gear / Top Gear 2 - these games have some of the best music on the system - or at the very least some of the best for racing games on it. - Top Gear 3000 was ok, but I didn't have as much fun with it as the first 2.

I also have to recommend the previously mentioned Sunset Riders - it's not only as much fun as Turtles in Time - it's also a lot more arcade accurate than the version on Genesis.

I really have no concept of what was popular back then, I just played whatever my parents bought me. Star Wars games were good, Aladdin, Pitfall, Megaman X, Top Gear... Really though you can pick up just about any SNES game and have a good time, definitely more than the crap being released today

There was a couple Spider man games on the SNES, Maximum Carnage and Separation Anxiety, And I've heard they're quite good, I'm gonna see if I can buy 'em online.

Tetris Attack is a great SNES puzzle game, especially in multiplayer. Definately don't pass it over in garage sales, if it weren't for my mom's uneducated game buying eyes I wouldn't own this exellent game.

sunset riders, yea thats classic. i highly suggest maximum carnage, that is one great game.

an overlooked game i would suggest is final fantasy mystic quest. not quite as good as ff2 or ff3, but its not a straight rpg, more like zelda i suppose. also check out illusion of gaia, its along the same lines as far as genre is concerned. shadowrun is a good game, just not as good as its highly superior genesis counterpart. and uniracers. that game doesnt have any monsters, but it sure is alot of fun.

Definetely Maximum Carnage. Separation Anxiety isn't as good but it has co-op in it.

I liked a lot of the niche titles on the SNES, like:

E.V.O: The Search for Eden: You start life as a little fish and eat other fish and such and use "evo" points to evolve various parts of your body, becoming bigger and stronger through like five or six stages. I love the music and the concept.

Gemfire: This is kind of a fire emblem meets romance of the three kingdoms strategy game, Critics didnt like it because it was too easy, but I had lots of fun with it,

Uncharted Waters: New Horizons: You play as one of five charries, sailing around the world and becoming a world renowned trader or fearsome pirate.

Soul Blazer: Its a little rough around the edges, but its definitely fun. It plays a bit like Illusion of Gaia.

Earthbound: If you arent adverse to role playing games, Earthbound has some decidedly weird creatures. =P
