Parents won't let me buy Skyrim for myself, even though they're perfectly fine with me playing it?

Before you read this, there are a few things you should know. My parents absolutely HATE video games. They say video games do nothing for you, and while that's true, I'm only twelve, it's not like I have a job yet. I have lots of other interests besides video games, in fact, I'd rather do some of them rather than video games. I have really good grades and I do my chores everyday without being asked (take care of chickens, goats, ducks, cows; take out the trash; etc). I'm outside a lot, and I get exercise (I'm into cross country). I'm only allowed to play when it's nighttime. Nowadays, I rarely play because they won't let me. To them, my whole day is: wake up; sit around all day waiting for nightfall; and then play video games. Just... no.

Now onto Skyrim. I recently wanted to buy it for myself, so I talked to them and they said I could probably get it and play it. Then, later, when my mom wasn't busy, I asked her if she could order it off Amazon for me while I had the money ready to pay her ($15 for Skyrim). Then she got into a yelling fit and said I don't need to buy another video game and why don't I save my money instead.

I put more than half of all the money I earn into my bank account so I can buy a car and a house, the rest I keep to buy whatever I want. Most of the time, I do save my money. But I want to buy Skyrim and yet they won't let me. When I bring it up they just start yelling. Something similar happened quite recently, too. I wanted to buy a third Xbox 360 controller because when a friend comes over my little sister always wants to play with us, and since we only have 2 controllers she starts crying. To my parents, I shouldn't even be playing video games when my friends are over.

So, what do I do to convince my parents let me buy Skyrim. Again, they're perfectly fine with me playing it, it's just buying it, even though it's $15 and I have $55 saved up. What do I do?

Have you tried showing your parents everything else you do "(take care of chickens, goats, ducks, cows; take out the trash; etc)"? This way they know you're not wasting free time by wanting to only play games?

Have you showed them that new games usually go for $60, therefore $15 for a game is a good price? You can also tell them Skyrim has a lot of content and you won't be asking for another game anytime soon. Although that can backfire because they may think that because there is a lot to do that you'll be playing more.

You can also tell them that playing Skyrim is safer then browsing the internet at night where you can "accidentally" end up on bad websites. :)

I'm not sure if there's anything that can convince your parents to change their minds about it. Games are just entertainment. It's a typical story that agricultural parents (i'm not sure if that's the correct term. excuse my english) totally hate gaming, and don't understand that form of entertainment at all.

But the thing is, that it's better entertainment in general than watching TV or movies (unless they are educational, or culturally meaningful works), because games actually challenge you. They make you think. It's better to spend your time with challenging entertainment, than passively staring at stupid crap from TV. There's also a crap-load of money on gaming industry, so it's a really legit career choice too. It's a harsh and demanding road, though.

$15 from Skyrim is a really good deal, btw.

Just buy the game at a store. There must be some store that still sells the game, even though its pretty old now. It'll probably cost a bit more than 15 dollars but at least you will have the game and not have to beg like a dog for it from your mom. Best buy probably sells it.

You gotta get this game btw. Theres nude mods and such, its great for a 12 year old.

You need to grow up a bit before you can stop listening to your parents.

What you should do is listen to your parents.

And if they wont let you buy it yourself, just keep asking them to do it then, at a point they will either go do it or ask you to do it yourself.

But remember you are the kid and your parents are your parents and always listen to them.

your first problem is that you are 12, and then parents of this kinda mentality who are against video games are hard to convince. i had the same problem, my parents thought the same about video games, they only wanted me to get very good grades every time and then wanted me to crack a national level entrance exam to get into medical school. so i made a deal with them, i will get the grades and also crack the exam only if they get me all the playstation consoles that will be launched . and that's how i got my ps1,2 and 3 for cracking the exam with any number of games i want . and now am a doctor so i got myself a ps4

Haha, lucky luck me for two reasons:

  1. I rule my own bank account since I'm my own boss in my own house.
  2. Even when I was under wing of my parents, my own savings were my own business, my parents wouldn't stop me spending my cash to buy most stupid thing ever.

Now back on Skyrim....you sure that real reason your parents are so against Skyrim isn't because your mum/dad might have visited YouTube/Google few times only to discover half naked characters everywhere around? Just saying, everyone modded their Skyrim as hell and the mods involving Skyrim in general are 95% nude ones.....so that could be reason too lol
