PC or Home Consoles?

I've never bought a PC game before and only relied on home consoles for my gaming source. Anyway, I always got put off by PC games cause I'm so used to playing on the TV which is ofcourse bigger than my PC screen and then comes the updated cards, sounds cards etc etc. Why do people prefer PC games? I just find consoles to be so much more convenient.
I ask this because there are a few games I'm interested in that are only on PC (Japanese games) which I'd like to buy but I'm still unfamiliar on PC games in general. Do they take much memory?

That said, I prefer consoles, but if there are games for PC you must play, then get a PC. Depending on requirments for the games you want, it will set you back 800-1100 dollars to build your own.
