I want a RPG so after looking at Shin Megami Tensei Persona 3 and 4 I'm not sure which to get... 3 seems like it has better characters and I like the concept with the gun but persona 4 has better reviews and may just overall be better but I dunno... Please I'm hoping someone has played either one. Thanks in advance! I have a backwards compatible PS3 to ply it on

I have both games. I've beaten P3, and I think it's one of the greatest games I've played, and that's saying alot. I'm currently on P4 and I can already tell it's significantly better than 3. My advice is to get both games, as P3 is soon to be a very rare game, with 4 not far behind. If you are even remotely a fan of jrpgs, I strongly recommend you get them both. Trust me, it's a worthy investment.

Play both!

You should play Persona 3 FES first. Some of Persona 4's gameplay enhancements make it hard to go back.

Heed this advice well. I started off with Persona 4 and went back to Persona 3. After completing P4, I am having a hard time getting into P3.

Completely agree. Both are awesome, but if you play Persona 4 first, Persona 3 might seem a little frustrating. Mainly because you can't control all of your characters and the Social Links aren't as developed in my opinion. Play Persona 3 first and then play Persona 4.

I may have to depending on how number 4 goes... so far I just started but everything is awesome! I really enjoy the dialog too and the voice acting

I really would recommend getting P3 FES is you can find it eventually. They are both amazing games, although, P4 is a little bit better.

Yeah I agree, if you like P4 a lot you should like P3. The biggest things I think you'd have to get used to in P3 after playing P4 are not having complete control over other members of your party and not having much variety with dungeons, but it is still a high quality game.

Then you are in for a treat. There are some hilarious scenes once you get further into the game. :)

I think the only problem P4 has with a PS3 is that the floor numbers don't show up in the dungeon parts... you'll just see a black banner where the floor numbers should be.

Yeah, what's up with the black bar? I've been playing over 70 hours and it hasn't done anything for me.

Persona 4 isn't available yet where I live, but I picked up Persona 3 FES recently and it's really good. It was slow to start and felt fairly restrictive, since you only have a certain amount of time to get stuff done, as well as only being able to control a single character, but it has a lot going for it. It seems pretty deep, with the fusion of different Persona and developing social links with different people within the school. From what I've heard the length seems daunting (70+ hours, in addition to the 30+ hour The Answer segment) but I think I'll have a decent time with it.
