I'm hoping to start holding video game tournaments with cash prizes.

If there was a video game center that held 5v5 tournaments for prize money, would u participate... lets say it was $20 to enter and first place team gets $600?

Would u be able to get 5 people together to attend the tournament?

My biggest doubt is that enough people will actually come out to participate. As a "hardcore" gamer myself, there is nothing as appealing as earning money playing video games. I love to compete, but there is no good venue for me to play for cash. I want some feedback from other gamers to see if it is worth running tournaments.

The location for the tournaments would most likely be the boston area, but feel free to reply with feedback no matter where you live

Thank you

That would be very interesting especially if you offered team/solo games such as SSB:B or other games. Though(i am not 100% sure) but I think you may need a license but again I am not sure I remember reading somewhere since you are using their games for profit. Though I can not go since it is a great trek.

Digital Overload offers prizes and stuff. Though, theirs might be in the form of drawings.

Anyway, make an entry fee and then you split the winnings. 50% for the house and 50% for the first place. A lot of tourneys are like that.

Thanks for the feedback, like I said my biggest worry is that there wouldn't be enough people willing to enter. It wouldn't be like gambling but like what Digital Overload suggested: a tournament with an entry fee. Getting a team together may be hard for some gamers, but I like that solo gaming idea such as SSB:B.

Personally, there aren't any games that I've played to the degree where I could compete with others. I prefer solo games. Honestly, I don't know how big of a market there would be, though I imagine there would be some interest.

Speed runs =D. That would be pretty crazy like speed runs of OoT or other single player games.

I think your best bet would be to try to get a bunch of your friends together, maybe even friends of friends, and all throw in ( lets say 10 a piece) and play for that, then maybe more people would get interested in doing so that way you avoid having a set prize and then not enough people show up to pay for that amount of money, and see where it goes from there.

Maybe you could even have a multiple-tier system, so that more than one person could walk out of there with money.

yea it would definetely be a multi tier system with top 3 teams making money. Starting small also sounds like a good idea, feel out the demand. Speed runs may be good, but that only involves 2 people and can be lengthy. I still like the idea of 1v1 tournaments though. I feel like there aren't that many games centered around 1v1 or non-team play. Racing games could work.
