I have a ps2 from back when they were first launched so needless to say its pretty old. It works fine mostly but it refuses to play blue backed discs. Any discs that has a blue back to em it just says disc read error. Is there anything i can do to make it work? I don't really wanna get a new one if other ps2 games work fine.

Man I'm not an expert but that must be any chip it has or the laser that reads your games.

Either your laser is
being obstructed by dirt and dust, or the laser's voltage is not properly
adjusted.

The poster above me is what I found as well. Sounds like it's time to find a backward compatible PS3 or a PS2. They are only $129 these days right? (Assuming you are in the US).

You should clean your PS2 every 2 weeks, with the CD cleaner. I would also clean my disk with one of them special wipes..you can get them from GameStop or EB Games.

You know, you can buy a slim-model PS2 for only $130 and replace the old PS2.

$130 isn't cheap for an outdated game system.

It's cheap for gamers who like legacy gaming.

If you want to take a chance on another used PS2 go check craigslist.com. I just got a used slim for $60 and it works flawlessly.

Either your laser is
being obstructed by dirt and dust, or the laser's voltage is not properly
adjusted.

icygangsta

Yes exactly and if that doesnt work then you might just be screwed.

I asked a guy at Gamestop something like that a while back, he said really old PS2's lasers are weak and can't read newer games, I think you can get a new laser in it for like 20 bucks or something, call gamestop or Sony or something. That or your PS2 is just really dirty, clean it and stuff before you call.

gamefaqs.com has 2 walkthrus of how to adjust the laser voltage on those older PS2's..... under, "disk read disk error FAQ" Different author's, but are titled the same. Both have a section of how to adjust it.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/game/915821.html

...blue disk = CD format.

Sounds like the laser is about to give in. Cleaning MAY help it, but I don't like you chances. Replacement time.

A CD lens cleaner may help, it worked on my PS2. They are very cheap, and you can find them at most stores.

Wait what blue-backed disc are you trying to play because if it is a gameshark then it may not play it because gamesharks have a lot of data compacted into them so a little scratch could mess it up....that could be why!

I've heard that many of the old PS2s have problems with discs that have different colored bottoms. You should google a solution or just get a Slim. They are only like 130 now and they'll probably be 99 for the holiday season.
