Wirless controllers are good for having the ability to play anywhere you choose (within range), but they can sometimes lose signal internally and have to be replaced. Now a wired controller will be reliable for a long time (as long as you dont spike it too much), but you are giving up some of your freedoms on where you choose to sit. :P
i find the logitech wireless controller too bulky and for this reason i much prefer the wired ps2 controllerManyac
+1 to the logitech wireless controllers for PS2.
The original Logitech wireless is huge and takes 4 AA batteries but I never once had a lost signal. Logitech later redesigned it to be much much smaller, about the same overall size as the dualshock2. The newer model takes only 2 AA batteries and has worked flawlessly as well.
I hear a lot of mention about the battery thing. I'll tell you from experience it's just not that big of an issue. I have a battery charger in the drawer next to my couch so there's always a pair charged and ready to go.
It's not really about one being "better" than the other so much as it's about which is better "for your situation". There isn't any single right answer.
My TV is about a half a mile away from me across the living room- it would take two extensions per controller. Add to that the fact that my cat loves to chew cables and the wireless option is the only way to go for me. If your room is the size of a postage stamp and you don't need the extra reach then you probably don't need a wireless controller and that's fine too.
