Why do people still think Pokemon RBY are still the best games? I mean FRLG are updated and better versions of the same games! Although GSC are still the best to me since you get to do 8 gyms, the Elite 4, and then do all the gyms from RBY! I can't figure out why people like RBY the best... Oh, and just to be clear... RSE and DPP fail in comparison to any of the GB/GBC versions.

Yeah i like GSC better, but doing the gyms over isn't the same as RBY. It just feels different. Well i guess it is different haha.

Anyway i can't wait for Soul Silver and Heart Gold!!!:)

I'm a die hard Blue Version fan, I dig the old games and GSC just never got me into it. I didn't like the pokemon at all. The original pokemon are the only ones I care for, after them, they just kiddied it up. Too cutesy or lame.

hahaha that is so true! just the other day I saw my friend with his gameboy color playing pokemone bluev.

I was lmao and asked him why he doesn't just get the nintendods for the better games.

He said that the game was still awesome.

So I think the reason why people say how great they are is because pokemon games just ARE that great.

Great Replayablity and great fun.

Hmm.. I always thought that GSC was the best entry in the series, but then Firered/Leafgreen came out. I mean, it had what I always thought of as the best features of GSC that RBY was missing, the special defense/special offense stat spreading, and the inclusion of the DARK type(Steel didn't really seem like that good of a type until later entries, and it still wasn't a must-include). So my vote for favorite entry was FR/LG.

But you do make a good point about the extra gyms, and, in fact, a whole extra world. It definitely was the biggest Pokemon game to date. I'll have to think about it some more...

Playing Silver for the first time will always be in my most favorite gaming moments. BRY were great, but to me, GSC improved on just about everything that the originals did.

Eh, I don't think that GSC was a direct step forward as much as it was a step to the side and a trip to the grocery store. Yes, it's bigger. Yes, it...looks better, I guess. Larger Pokédex and everything.

Yet, it did also feel somewhat different. Smoother, yes, but also somewhat drawn out at parts. And revisiting Kanto wasn't nearly as well done as the Johto region was, so that isn't quite the end-all-be-all definer of the game for me. The music was somewhat compositionally advanced in comparison to RBY and the graphics were smoother, so that's some points for GSC.

But at the same time, a lot of the stuff it did just felt unnecessary and/or just different. And when there's difference, some will prefer one over the other. Objective quality be damned when I say that I just like the amazing contrast between the simplistic graphics, music, overworld and mechanics and the deeper-than-it-seems battle system that drives batles stronger than many in the rpg world. That simple-yet-complex feel is something that inexplicably draws me in, more so than GSC and the way it full-heartedly embraced the complexity in all other areas, taking away from the charm I felt in RBY.

But even so, GSC was a rather logical evolution of RBY, there's no denying that, and I understand completely why people'd prefer them over the originals. RSE, however, feel like they took the original formula, added the overworld mechanics of GSC and threw in some pointless gimmicks to play around with. REALLY disappointing of an evolution.

And in regards to FRLG, I just feel that it took the originals' gameplay and took away all the charm from it, replacing it with the same graphics and sound quality we got in RSE, not really a tradeoff I was very happy with :{

Oh and hi guys, I'm new. Was there some welcome topic I missed somewhere...?

Hmmm....I think I can see what you're saying about the charm of RBY, but, even disregarding FRLG, I still think GSC is simply a more fine tuned version of RBY. I feel like the first pokemon games were something of an expirement, and even though it's great, there are still a few areas that needed some work. For a lot of fights, all I needed was a powered up Alakazam with pyschic/recover combo! There really wasn't anything to beat that.

GSC filled in those holes while adding some new features that are interesting, if not necessary. A night clock, happiness evolutions, all that stuff. It, to me, always ends up being the better of the two. Even without missingno.(I loved that guy)

Hey, if you're new, and want to find an interesting place to talk about games, why not join the union I'm a part of! We like to talk about a lot of ideas about games that you don't normally see on the forums. You can click the link on union, or the Beatles song in my sig to get there.

In any case, welcome!

People will murder me for saying this, but I enjoyed Ruby alot more than Silver, the world in Silver was pretty boring, (even though you could travel to the other region aswell). Red still pwns both though.

I agree that overall GSC was the best, but after playing Platinum and then going back and trying to play Silver version, it's pretty difficult to play without missing some of the more subtle features in Platinum.

Really? You liked Ruby more? Well, let me get my knife...

What exactly did you like more about Ruby? I found that entry just to be ...I think stale is the best word. the battling was fun, like all of the others, but there just seemed to be something that just didn't click with me. Like it lack that 'oomph' to push it past what had come before it. At least that's how I found it.

What exactly did you like more about Ruby?.

:P Well like I already mentioned, and most of all, the entire world and overall feeling of the game, locations you visit, and revisiting them with different bikes to try secret paths, and explore the rivers when you get surf, the look and feel of the cities, the dual bike system overall in Ruby, the story, the pokemon seemed more creative than in silver.. I liked basically everything a bit more in Ruby. This, ofcourse, doesn't mean I didn't thoroughly enjoy Silver. Also, I didn't like Pokmn Platinum too much. But that might also be because of the system it's on, the DS. With the stylo and 3d sprites.

Truth. D= I still think RBY are best, but GSC are a close second. My opinion of GSC is probably lower because of those darned Legendary Dogs...XD I spent a looooooong time trying to find them and I only ever caught the lightning one(Raikou?)...XD

Please, don't state it as fact. Gold and Silver are my favorites, but that doesn't mean that that is the one and only truth. I also like Sapphire and Diamond, mind you.

I preferred the original Blue and Red the most myself, until I got LeafGreen... the running shoes were the deal breaker for me :) I didn't get a chance to spend that much time with Gold/Silver though, so I will probably check out the new ones coming out. I really liked the additions that LeafG/FireR added, so hopefully these two new ones will also make an impact.

I agree, RBY were good, but GSC are classics.
