No, I'm not talking about game mechanics, or the number of pokemon, or any of that other fanboy nonsense.

I just started replaying Pokemon Blue today (Having spent over 160 hours on Soul Silver, and about 60 hours on Platinum), and something I realized... battles are a hell of a lot harder in the gen 1 games! Maybe it's just because I'm not very far in (have 6 pokemon, completed the first gym already, highest pokemon is level 13 pidgey), but the fact that I'm not 1-shotting everything with Super Effective attacks makes the battles more difficult.

Thoughts?

I just very recently finished playing through yellow again, because i just dug it up out of my closet, and i definitly agree that the generation 1 games are the hardest ones out there, especially as you get further into the game and all of the gym leaders suddenly have pokemon that are 5-10 levels higher than yours.

I think they should do a complete overhaul of the series. I haven't noticed any difference in battle difficulty.

I never found any pokemon game hard, they are just plainly tedious at times. If you think about if, your starter pokemon espcially the fire type can complete the entire game for you without training 6 pokemon for the elite four. If anything i would think Ruby/Sapphire would be the hardest since you cant beat the elite four with only your starter. If you take a pidgey to fight rock types, what were your expected outcomes? Now with the EV training, Nature and IV, im more content with my time playing other RPG games like Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2 etc.
