The poll states it all. What do you prefer?

I prefer the n64 and saturn over the SNES and genesis. I like 8 bit the best but thats not an option here.

SNES days are what I consider to be the golden age of gaming for me. Yeah there have been awesome advancements in the industry since then, but nothing has really excited me as much as my time on the SNES.

I enjoyed the 16bit much more. Looking back I realize that the PS1/64 days were not that great. I can't enjoy many of the 64/PS1 anymore. Yet the SNES/Genesis games just keep getting better.

The 64 or the PS1 alone would win against the SNES! The SNES was great, though.

For me, N64 by itself dominates the 16 bit era.

The fourth generation was the best imo,it has lots of memorable games,I think Neo Geo is also from era of SNES and Genesis though;very expensive console.

I grew up with the PlayStation and the N64 so I have to vote for that. SNES and Mega Drive were awesome though.

Well I my first console was the PS1, so (With nostalgia as a helping factor), I choose the "32/64bit" era.

But the 16bit era is still awesome :D

The majority of posters on Gamespot are 19 or younger so this poll will be skewed towards the PS1/N64 generation as many of them were not really into gaming back in the 16 bit days. I personally got into gaming during the 8 bit days (with Sega Master System and NES), The 16 bit generation made me a gamer for life but I probably had more fun with the PS1/N64 generation as Castlevania: Sympony of the KNight, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy VII, and Resident Evil 1-3 are among my favorite games of all time. However with that said, the 16 bit generation aged a lot better. A lot of PS1/N64 games are downright unplayable nowadays, they seem so rough and unpolished. Games like Sonic, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and Chronotrigger are as awesome and refined as the day they launched. Hell, I think Final Fantasy VI for the SNES is more playable than Final Fantasy VII for the PS1.

To me the 32/64 bit is far better. I remember that the first RPG I ever played was Suikoden 2 on the PS, and hey, Final Fantasy 7 was awesome. The Sega Saturn had a few good games before it was discontinued too. And I loved the Zelda games for the N4.

If Suikoden 2 was the first RPG you've played then how are you even qualified to make this arguement? If you didn't experience Earthbound, Chronotrigger, Final Fantasy VI (FF 3 in the US), Phantasy Star, etc. when they came out on the 16 bit systems then you are basically saying one thing is better than another with experiencing both.

That was the first one that I played, I did however go back and play older ones, I liked Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, but much of the 16 bit games never really did appeal to me as much as the 32/64 bits did.
