Yes, I hereby demand that Valve take the brightest gem of Orange Box and turn it into its very own game. I just got around to starting this today, and it really, really is quite clever. Someone said you can beat it in only three hours or so, so that's rather disappointing, but just imagine Portal game with real weapons and everything! Hm.... maybe Valve will include the portal gun in Episode 3.

well, if you have the PC version, there are 100's of new, user made levels to download...though they are very hard sometimes....

you can also play Half Life 2 with the gravity gun with a few tweaks.

Considering they made a PC mod that does this, I really, really hope they have a download for the 360 version that lets you use the Portal Gun in HL2 and the episodes. After you beat the game, of course... :D

Well the problem is that it sorta breaks the game's AI. They just ignore the portals.

Which is why any 360 version would have to go through Valve... and they could adjust the AI accordingly. ;)

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if the Portal Gun was in Episode 3... to explain why would be a spoiler, so...

Did I hear spoilers? There's a reference to Portal's character in HL2Ep2

Sorry, couldn't resist. You can hurt me now.

It already is its own game. You can buy it on its own over Steam. And the extra "challenges" (which are tough) and the ability to get custom maps on PC make the game more than worth price of admission, Orange Box or not.

I agree that they should definitely expand upon this first game. However, the ending pretty much finishes the game right there. Valve would have to tie the plot in with the events of HL2
because the Aperture Science Labs mentions Black Mesa in Portal.
You know what I mean. A full-length game, intros, cut-scenes, full arsenal of weaponry, more characters, everything.

That would seriously be messing with the game a bit too much. I can see cutscenes but Valve aren't known for them and adding other things like actual weapons would completely upset the balance of the gameplay and remove much of the charm the game has for not concentrating on guns.

I think the game is spectacular as it is. A bit short but spectacular.

Valve doesn't do cutscenes, thank goodness. I don't know, really, I think adding weapons and making it into an action game simply wouldn't be Portal - Portal is a puzzle game. I would like to see some use of the tech in Episode Three, but Portal should remain Portal. The game is short, but I found the lenght pretty much perfect for what it is (took me just under 4 hours to beat the first time through), it has an awesome storyline with a great ending and it's a superb game in its own right.

If they ever did do another Portal, it would be cool to have some kind of puzzle game outside of the Aperture Science Enrichment Centre...whatever that might entail :?

Well from what I got from the ending of Portal I assume that we will be seeing a second one and it will involve things outside of the labs.

All this Portal talk. I'm off to take the shrink wrap off of the Orange Box. I've had it since launch and I haven't touched it.

I don't think that Portal would work in a 15-20 hour game - there's only so many puzzles you can do with it before repetition kills the game.

1- the lack of shooting monsters was so refreshing. 2- the story was amazing, adding new characters would take away from the charm of the story, the emptness and confussion really helped with the story's pace. i think they should simply have a level creator put in, so people can share all levels as a game portal was pretty much perfect. its just once you complete it, theres nothing to do, you know how to solve all the puzzels, so what CAN you do?

Yep, it is a full game. I don't think prolonging the experience would really make it better. Just look at Sega's Crush.

I thought Portal was a full game. Despite it being short, I felt very satisfied with it. Much more satisified than many longer games I have played.

Portal is a full game. I finished it just at the three hour mark and walked away completly satisfied with my experience. It may be short, but its sweet and its my definite GOTY. Doing all the challenges afterwards adds a few more hours replay value too. I finished all the advandced maps, but sucj at the individual challenges. Portal is like a giant, sweet slice of...
Cake.
I found Portal to be quite lackluster actually, I'm glad it was kept short. It's like imagining the gravity gun getting it's very own game, it just wouldn't hold its own.

I think given the extra time for development, that Portal could have been just as successful being a longer game without getting too repititious. Really I think they just scratched the surface of the types of puzzles that could be done. It just takes a quality set of creative minds to come up with them. And of course they would need to integrate additional puzzles into the story, or it just wouldn't work as well.

It is an so much more.

The game is not only a ton of fun it is incredibly witty and humourous. GLaDOS is easily one of the best antagonists to ever grace a video game... easily. And the Weighted Companion Cube is probably one of the greatest NPC's as well.

portal is one of the most uber games of all time...i want a full game of portal, dont get me wrong but if it was made into a full game people would get bored of it's repetitive nature and valve would lose it's popularity as fast as a week and then we would be complaining about that.
