So does anyone else think pre-ordering is kind of pointless? like...why not just wait til the game comes out on the first day and buy it? I can understand if it's a highly anticipated game and tons of people are going to be buying it/pre-ordering it and will be sold out for a short while after release. But excluding those games, why? Is it the company trying to make people believe that their game is in high demand and is going to be awesome?

Many games nowadays offer preorder bonus content. If you don't preorder, you may have to pay extra, or will have to wait until it's included in the GotY edition.

I actually prefer to wait for the complete GOTY Edition.

The Pre Order incentives are either too few and pointless or too good and you feel like its a rip off because this shouldve have been part of the game from the get go.

I'l never preorder ever again. And Sometimes I won't even by the game after release especially if a Complete Edition is Likely.

Been putting off Arkham Origins because theres a chance for a Complete Edition if there working on story DLC.

I agree. I like to wait for the GOTY Edition. For example, I did this for the last two Fallout games. I would wait till the GOTY edition gets announced and pick it up at the next steam sale.

Honestly, I cannot remember the last time I preordered a game. It just seems counterintuitive. Why wouldn't you wait to get more information about a game before spending your money? Plus, like you said the bonus content is almost always small in value. It is usually some special DLC or collectors item which has little value, IMO.

For standard editions of games I don't bother pre-ordering. If I want a collectors edition of some sort then I will pre-order. But I don't do that much now since I can't afford it and I barely have room for any more collectors edition games. I filled up the top shelf of my closet sort of.... lol

I'm gonna pre-order InFamous:SS today simply for the bonus mission that ties together InFamous 2 and the new game. I know it's not all that great but it is something I can justify paying an extra £9.99 for. I'll be getting the game anyway so why miss out?

I also get a nice hat that will make me look like a douche.

I've gone all digital, and many of the games I would normally have preordered aren't available on the digital marketplace until launch day. I would have paid off Titanfall and the new MGS early, but it wasn't an option. Both of those games have preorder bonuses exclusive only at retail that I'm missing out on, but it doesn't bother me too much. I'm just glad I can play the games without going to Gamestop or BestBuy.

My thoughts exactly but another reason not to pre order is when some games release without promised content and little to no notification of said change, South Park: Stick of Truth is a good example with its censored change which was only mentioned on release day.

I hate surprises. They can't do that. And do the reviews mention this ? They should, if they know whats good for them.

Most reviews I've seen haven't mentioned this at all, mind you this isn't the first time and won't be the last time we're lied to. The differing content might not be huge but it's still something that they chose to keep quiet about.

Yep, I'm definately never Pre-Ordering ever again. They've violated a very very very Sacred rule.

Pre-ordering will probably end up saving me like $50 this month thanks to Amazon's price guarantee. Got my pre-orders in before games went up $5-10 in Canada, so I'm still paying $60/game instead of the new $65-70.

@fnevaeva: i rarely pre-order. Unless it's something i know i want and i don't want to think i am not going to get it. Like FFX HD. That's a game i know i want and i pre-ordered it. But compared to what i usually buy, pre-ordering is kind of pointless

I only do it for limited editions like FFX & FFX-2 HD with rare art books and such.

Haven't pre ordered a game since I placed one on GT4. Then I proceeded to wait almost 2 years for it to release. That was the last straw. I am more than comfortable waiting for the game to be available, so pre ordering is pointless. There's plenty of games on the shelves to tide me over until that happens.

The only reason I usually pre-order anything is if I trade something in store, I have to use the money in-store.

The only time I'd even consider preordering something is if it were only at retail and I knew it was going to be a limited run. For 99% of games it wouldn't even cross my mind. Throwing money at a game that hasn't released yet and will never run into supply problems is moronic

I do it because I buy my games online, it also usually means I get the game the day before release.

I can't pre-order here and I don't even try, I just don't care about any bonuses and I don't even care about DLC's, I prefer going from a game to another game rather than committing myself to one game, so I very rarely buy DLC's. I buy games I want after they are released, and I even wait for lots of games now to get cheaper to get them, and only buy few games that I'm interested in day-one, I also got PS+ which helps with getting games I wanted but didn't want to buy at release.

I pre order for 2 reasons. One reason is I actually like some of the bonus dlc that is available for pre order, and the second is that sometimes I like to pay off a game when I pre order because I have the money then and I may not have it when the game comes out.

I preorder all the time. Sometimes because of additional content or early/beta access, sometimes because I know it's a limited release, but mostly so I don't have to keep track of when shit is coming out. Those phone/text reminders are handy.

Also, my GS does midnights all the time based on the number of preorders they've taken...I love getting my games the night before, so I preorder to do what I can to ensure a midnight release.

I'm a GOTY, Complete Edition kind of gamer. Why pre order a game based on hype that will depreciate in value over time and become more of bargain a year after release? The bonus content for pre ordering is all bullshit. We used to call those cheat codes or easter eggs back in the day and they came free with the game.

Off topic, bullshit like Watch Dogs with downgraded graphics and season pass? I'd pre order MGS V Phantom Pain if anything. After seeing how amazing Ground Zeroes looks even on the PS3, damn near on par with TLOU graphics, I don't understand how a AAA 'next gen' game like Watch Dogs can look worse than 'current gen'.
