In a matter of days I will no longer be 21 but 22 and earlier tonight I began looking at some games to preorder and realized every single noteworthy title out there right now gives you some sort of bonus content. Personally, I enjoy the preorder content but at the same time I get frustrated losing out on content because I did not preorder a game. Preorder bonuses serve as incentives for the players to buy the game ahead, it makes plenty of sense, but is anybody else every annoyed with what you can miss if you don't preorder a game? Let alone, different places give you different bonuses, take Ni no kuni for example where preordering the game from amazon gets you an extra monster versus the gamestop exclusive of a pretty cool looking metal case.

Now what I don't understand is why a company wouldn't bundle all of those goodies together under one collection of the game. Sure, there are collectors or limited editions that can net you some awesome stuff but even then those special editions can still be lacking in content that should easily have been included. Specifically, take Dead Spcae 3 for example where preordering the game from amazon gets you an exclusive gun. That means there is an entire weapon (and ammo) that you won't be getting in the game if you don't hop on this deal which to me is ridiculous. Hypothetically speaking, if you don't preorder the game you are missing out on content that is undoubtably game changing and thats when I begin to really dislike the preorder system.

Does anybody else miss when getting a game was just that? You didn't have to preorder because you didnt want to miss out on stuff, you didnt have to buy DLC because it was already apart of the game. I'm just curious what you guys think because the preorder ordeal is one I feel most gamers are familiar with and I want to hear what you guys gotta say.

I spose it only matters to me if I am looking forward to the game, otherwise I don't really mind toooooo much, but most of the time it becomes available to buy on Live anyway. So if you wait you can usually buy it online and you get to choose what DLC to buy which is mint. Also if I really wanted it then you can always buy a new copy off the net. May be more expensive or less expensive than when they first came out, but thats the gamble i guess! It's awesome how games can be upgraded and expanded these days, but it just matters how the corporations decide to let you access/buy it

Thats the problem.. it's content that has already been made and released, so why are people happy to then pay extra for it later on? The content should be in the game to begind with, not removed for preorder bonuses. It doesn't matter if you preorder cause you get it, but if you miss out then you don't get that awesome content.. so basically yes, I preorder any game I plan to buy at full price.

IMO you should buy the game and get the full game. These days you buy a game and they've taken a bit of it, sat it aside and told you that you can have it if you pay more money. I just don't give into it. Capcom and EA are two of the worst for this that come to mind.

i don't really mind the preorder bonus per se, but having all these different types of preorder bonuses is just stupid, They should be fighting over price, not freaking exclusive content

I don't mind Preorder Bonuses. They want as many preorder as they can get and then send the message to her.. Even if you do not get the preorder bonuses you still get the complete game.

I used to like preorder bonuses when I could count on them actually being exclusive to people who preordered the game. Like the extra costumes in Mercenaries 2. Even using the all skins cheat doesn't net you the preorder skins. Nowadays not getting game content for preordering doesn't bug me. I know if I wait for a price drop and/or buy it used, I'll save the dough and be able to get whichever of the bonuses I want. (Of course, that didn't prevent me preordering the CE of Arkham City at Gamestop and the standard edition at Best Buy.)

I only pre-order if I really like the game and the pre-order bonuses are just that bonuses. As it has already been mentioned, it is not uncommon for those pre-order bonuses to be available at a later date for those who want to spend the money to get them through DLC packs etc. Since I commonly play MMO's I usually get my preorder bonuses in the form or Early Access or Beta access. Nothing says win to me like try before you buy.

They should give free season passes for pre orders. I bet Borderlands 2 would have sold a ton more if they gave out free season passes upon pre order.

I only pre-order a game if it comes with a really cool exclusive item I can hold in my hand, not some junk costume or gun from a download code. Like the Borderlands 2 Loot Chest would have been nice to have. Season Passes should never have been invented, that just encourages gamers to accept being overcharged for content that should have been included in the game in the first place.

They could just not be apart of the game since there is no reason that content should have been included in the game in the first place.

I don't necessarily like it when they take in-game content and split it up among different retailers. Now, you make something tangible, like an action figure or something, and I'll be all on it. Big deal if it's some character skin or car that doesn't handle any better than the rest of the roster.

They are incentives. You can play the games without the pre-order content and materials, but getting a t-shirt, a steelbook case, or an in-game item is lucrative to consumers who are planning on buying these games day-one or soon after that. The reason why stores offer different pre-order bonuses is probably because they made a deal with the game makers for exclusive content. I like pre-ordering for tangible stuff like t-shirts or bonus dvds.

What about what Bioshock Infinite is doing? I have yet to preorder it but I plan on it and I know you get that mini-game that unlocks stuff for the game, that I am down for, it will just get me excited about the game even if it isnt a mind blowing puzzle or whatever it is. Also think im getting the limited edition specifcally for that print, looks dope. I am happy too seeing that they offer 2 types of editions not counting the standard game.
