My favorite PS1 game is Twisted Metal 2 - it's a sequel that improved upon everything from the first game. Each vehicle was unique, as were the drivers, and there were nice animated cutscenes progressing the story for each of them. I beat the game multiple times with each character just to watch their endings repeatedly. There were 2 hidden characters/vehicles (both had 'ending movies'), and 3 hidden tracks, along with cool 'special moves' like Freeze and Shield. The only thing it lacked was System Link cable support to allow 2 tv's, 2 games, and 2 systems to do LAN matches. If you've ever had any kind of interest in 'cars with guns' you need to check it out.
I don't want to go off-topic, but since you said you have a PS2, and related to TM 2 is Twisted Metal: Head-On - Extra Twisted Edition, as it's the direct sequel that Twisted Metal III and Twisted Metal: Black weren't. TM Head-On was a port from the PSP launch title - with quite a few extras. If you do enjoy vehicular destruction, you should also check out MotorStorm: Arctic Edge for PS2, though it's more racing-focused, though it also happens to be available on PSP.
Glad I still have my copy!
- Intelligent Qube (fantastic, addicting, original puzzle game. But also VERY hard to find, unfortunately)

I'd like to add Tale of the Sun. Not everyone's game (research it, to be sure) - it would be fun to still have!

Resident Evil 1&2, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy Tactics, Tekken 2&3. Those are just off the top of my head, at least for games not mentioned already.
For Resident Evil 1, I would recommend the non-Director's Cut long box version. Directors Cut made the game too easy, and it takes a lot out of the Survival aspect IMO.

The Resident Evil games are some of the best games on the system, without a doubt. But they're not exclusive. Saturn, N64, Dreamcast, and GameCube all have ports of PS1 Resident Evil games. That is unless you're counting Resident Evil: Survivor. There's a reason it hasn't been ported to any other system, though.
I'm just gonna go ahead and avoid the typical games that always get reccomended, so here's some moderately known games that are well worth it imo. Fear Effect Fear Effect 2 O.D.T. Colony wars Colony Wars Vengeance Vagrant Story Dino Crisis Dino Crisis 2rilpas

Both dino games are multi plat.

From the perspective of a guy that got a PS1 for the first time in 2008, here's my must have games -
Every single one of them are absolutely amazing games.

Well said! There's reall no such thing as a must have. It really comes down to what genre you like to play.

the issue of "exclusitivity" is quickly becoming moot, given that so much stuff has been handheld ported, re-released in package bundles, or offered on PSN etc as downloadable.
(not to mention that some stuff is only "exclusive" to certain regions; ex. "symphony of the night" was on Saturn in other regions)
anyhow, my PS1 "must haves" are:
- final fantasy VII
- silent hill
- metal gear solid
- castlevania symphony of the night
- lunar silver star story & eternal blue (there are older segaCD versions, but they don't compare favorably)
- lunar silver star story & eternal blue (there are older segaCD versions, but they don't compare favorably)TheKungFoolI thought about listing those myself. I was hoping EB would get a PSP port the way SSS did...but looks like that is not happening. I had also hoped that a team would eventually make a game out of Dyne's story.

I would like any good Lunar game which isn't yet another remake of Silver Star.
Jet Moto, Jet Moto2, Twisted Metal 1 and 2, Crash Bandicoot games, Metal Gear Solid, Wipeout, Ace combat 1, 2, and 3 (the first is called Air Combat fyi)

I guess you could argue the first is on PSN, but I would think that would still make it PS exclusive since it's emulated on PSN. Then the 2nd game is no where else: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reel_Fishing_II PS only. Please Log In to post.
