FF8 is superior to FF7 in every way. Fact.

I like VIII better.
But I think VII had a more balanced difficulty.
But I think VIII was better in terms of Character development, storyline, graphics, and translation.
FF8 is the only FF game I have ever hated. Dialogue is suppose to be used to guide you through a game and give you hints as to what to do next. In disc 2 you are given no hints and left to blunder butt your way around the world to figure out how to advance the game. ----- that. I don't want to buy a strategy guide or use a walktrhough just to play through a damn game's story. So two huge middle fingers to FF8._AbBaNdOn
Uh, it certainly gave you hints as to what to do. What part in disc 2?
Oh, I smell flames coming...XD Anyways, I never got to play FF8, but my friend said it wasn't too good, so I'll go with FF7...*hides behind flame proof shield*=D

You should play it.

I've never played FFVIII and have no intensions to. The main storyline looks very "Titanic" to me. Also, this is where the FF art style went a different direction, a much worse direction.
FFCYAN
It's not - even if people might try to tell you otherwise.
What worse direction? Realism?
You probably wouldn't like it though. It tries to be very different from previous games. It's very innovative, but a little to easy because it gives you too many options.
[QUOTE="Rhastafurion"]But I don't have a credit card, I'm 14. XDI just bought a brand new copy of FF8 from Amazon for less than $9,000.

Get one of those... debit cards frm the gas stations. Or do you have to be 18 for that?
Final Fantasy VIII is definitely better. Its a longer game and definitely more enjoyable although the story in FF VII was more emotional.
I always thought 8 was better though the story falls apart a bit for me, loved the characters, graphics, music and battle system so much though.
gun+sword = stupid ?? _AbBaNdOn
Unrealistically huge + sword + cross dressing main protaganist = stupid?

True and thats for a sealed Greatest Hits copy. I suggest getting em' while they are still around because eventually they will go up in price.
FFVII was okay back when I was young and played it. Now when I replayed it I really didn't like it at all. The characters really aren't even that cool (Cloud isn't for sure) pretty much just Vincent is a badass out of the group. I don't really consider FFVIII I just didn't like a thing about it, at least FFVII had a fun combat system (to me).

Ah and the hate begins, why cant we as FF fans get along and agree that each game is great in the grand scheme of FF games. But i suppose what im saying is falling on def ears. Anyway my vote is for ff7 i love that game but i like pretty much all FF games anyway, see an FF fan can like one game without trashing someone Else's favorite, its just rather rare.

I'm pretty sure you have to be 18, but then again, I've never tried...XDSorry guys, but FF8 is rubbish compared to 7. The story is a mess, the characters are annoying, the GF are too long and tedious to watch over and over, the junction system is headache inducing, plot development is inconsistent and it's possible to mess up your saved game making it impossible to beat the game. Nevertheless, FF8 has the dog cannon, and that's full of win.Black_Knight_00
How is the story a "mess?"
Perception related.
It's really not that hard.
How so?

Well, imagine a school filled with spoiled kids with gunswords (and teachers the same age as the students) that are constantly assigned to criminal and suicide terrorist missions they regularly prove incapable of accomplishing (publicly assassinating a witch, kidnapping the president, save an island by the Giant Enemy Crab...). The main character is a girly kid dressed up as Naomi Campbell on a shopping spree, who 'maybe' falls in love with the school prom queen (incidentally the leader of the terrorists). We get constantly treated to mind-numbing-boring 15 minutes-long text-only conversations between the two kids and interminable flashbacks with other characters that are never clearly explained. I call that messed up. The save game issue: if you reach the final area of the game and your level is low you won't be able to level up anymore and won't beat the final boss. Difficulty is meant to be adaptive, but this doesn't apply to that spot. Your only chance is to load an old save. You're right though: it's my personal point of view and I haven't liked any FF game after 7, so I'm not too qualified to bash 8 :P[QUOTE="hakanakumono"][QUOTE="Black_Knight_00"]Sorry guys, but FF8 is rubbish compared to 7. It's ok to have an opinion. To be honest, I'm exhausted from defending VIII of the misconceptions and lack of comprehension that generally results in complaints to try again right now.
I liked FF6 more then both and 10 better then them all, but if I had to choose between 7 and 8 then its 8 for the win but I do love 7.
Actually I prefer FF IX over all the other FFs
I didn't like 8. The characters were dull (kinda like how Cloud was), the story wasn't great, triple triad sucks and the draw system was terrible. :( I still own this game. But 8's not bad - unlike FF 6. I HATE THAT GAME.
i would say FFVII, my ps1 broke down before i got to play FF8 and i sold it before i got a ps2

Were you aware that you could play FF8 on your PS2? o_o;
FFVIII was the worst FF game created. the Graphics are all it had going for it. The Draw System was tedious and the Summons were the only way to actually play the game.
Battles were Summon, HitX 10391 times before its over and repeat with the next attack, it was a FF game that required to strategy to play what so ever it just handed you the summons and basically said "Just walk through the game for the Storyline", which in itself was Meh to begin with when compared to the other games.
VII at least was good from begining to end that kept you playing for the great storyline and the Materia system was fun also, but what bugged me in the end about it was that every character was just the same in the end. It never mattered who was in your party because the Materia made everyone a Carbon Copy of Eachother.
My Vote goes outside the box. Final Fantasy IV was the best Final Fantasy game created back in the early 90's. The Storyline and Characters in that game made it so Epic that you just had to keep going and going and going to see what would happen next because it felt so Epic for a game back then that just used Sprites. So many games come and go, but none of themnever really Matched the Storyline of IV and create that epic Feel.

First of all FFxii was the worst that was an awful game terrible story and the battle system was a mess just look at how crappy they made the summonings.
Second did you even play the game are you saying that summonings alone could take down ultimecia and ultimate weapon etc your summonings and attacks bar limit breaks only did 9999 max and they had over 100,000 hp the junction system worked really well you could customize your characters alot better and the limit breaks were probably the best from any ff game i have played at the end if you are saying all you did was summon or attack then you really had no clue how to play the game

There is a difference between "Playing the game Properly" and playing it through the huge loophole that the game left open to exploit and that was summons. At the end of the game the bosses are so damn easy to kill with Summons. I could care less if you did the Limit Breaks ect.. The fact of the matter is, that the time required to go that route was usless sinse summons got the job done without any problems.
Square broke their own game by doing the summon system the way they did. If they wanted people to play the game using Melee Attacks they would have built the game differently. Every single person I know played the game this way because it was more effective than wasting time on the horrible combat system it was built around.
FFXII was awful with a battle system that was a mess? Im sorry it was 100x morebalanced, Refined and fun to play over FFVIII. You talk that XII was a mess? yet the obvious Flaws in VIII make it better? that makes absolutly no sense at all.
